Just like the Jersey Boys

Ian Gillan has appeared on British TV again, and this time around it went way better, thanks to great rapport with the host with a clue.

In between tours, after the US tour and right before the European leg, Deep Purple’s icon Ian Gillan, made a stop to chat with Angela Rippon at the London’s channel GB News. Ian talked about moments in his rich career, and about his first ever forthcoming spoken-word tour, scheduled for April/May of next year all around the UK.

Thanks to Igor’s Rock Universe for posting this, and to steve4422 and Uwe for bringing it to your attention.

Ian sure is a good storyteller!
Also about things we have heard before. He is very good at making things sounds interesting 😊

Wish I lived in England next year….

    Hello.

    Unbelieveable useless piece of “journalism”.

Why do they do these? What is the point?
She really did had to hurry up. For toilet, perhaps ?

Mr. Gillan told a bit of his musical history, but I wonder why did he bother himself in doing this minor glimpse after all? (I guess the marketing of his spoken word tour is already well known.)

The depressing (for me) Autumn has arrived, waiting for the Winter. (And the eagles and the snow.)

Have a pleasant weekend anyway !

    Kippis.

Not that we needed any proof here, but it’s nice to see that Ian’s spell over mature women has lost none of its potency. šŸ¤—

I’m surprised by these brief TV appearances of Big Ian, and by the media exposure his “talking gibberish” tour is getting.

International fans may not know that the TV channel this is on, GB News is thr UK equivalent of Fox News – so it’s funded by right wing millionaires and propagates near fascist ideals. So please don’t watch it other than this.

This is all a bit of fun project while DP tour is off the boil.
Realistically he will get to lubricate his vocal cords while getting paid. It’s also a good way to fight dementia by keeping the brain active.
I am also a bit worried that it might be cancelled due to poor sale. That’s why they are trying the best media exposure.
    Peace āœŒļø

@10 Thank you for the information, I didn’t know that indeed. I wonder if Ian is aware of that. It’s unlikely that he isn’t, given his interest in such things.

    My comment was for Partisan.
It seems drifting off into to politics etc is never far away

Gillan once said it like it is.
“Dont talk about politics nor religion, it always causes fights. VAVOOM!”

I am very broad in my interests so drifting is hard for me to avoid.

I often tried people I was at odds with to prompt them into noticing common ground not let the whole relation sour because of the bad stuff.

    Of course its complex.
The devil is in the details and some matter more or not.

    I ve dealbreakers as well.
I guess everyone has them, they only differ.

I’m still thinking of going. Never been to the UK on a motorbike. Maybe some city out in the boond0cks I have never been before. My regional knowledge of Britain is patchy, London, Cambridge, Dover, Wales, Skye, Manchester, Glasgow, Edinburgh and the Orkneys, but I’ve never really been to the real South for instance.

Those two news stations are very popular in Britain and Angela Rippon is broadcasting royalty and a highly respected and loved figure in UK.
To be honest, I’m not sure whether I will go or not ? Sure, it will be great to be in the same room as the great man but the trouble is , us true fans have heard all the stories before !
I’m sure he will add a few things to keep it exciting.
It’s certainly well advertised in the British press every week !

    …I expect I probably will go ..

No one cares for me like yo do, Timi! Danke! 😘

Cherie wasn’t much of a singer to begin with, but then her capabilities never deteriorated either. Nature always has a way of compensating. šŸ¤—

ā€œLimited to 85 copiesā€? That is Ms Currie’s entire galactic fan base several times over! 🤣

    RockVoorne says:

Wasnt the drummer of the Runaways not thought of as possibly trans?

Lita hit it off with both Iommi and Blackmore I understood.

Never knew Joan Jett was gay.

  22. 22
    Uwe Hornung says:

Joanie was gay as a goose and in love with Suzi Quatro (who wasn’t). So was Sandy (she was the first one of the band to come out, but certainly not trans), Cherie Currie was an adventurous and inquisitive girl and liked to have it both ways (as did her idol David Bowie), I don’t know about Jackie Fox, she later on studied law so maybe she thought it was illegal to try? Only Lovely Lita Explorer Maid was aggressively hetero – mainly with older men who also played guitar (reputedly, Ritchie only gave her lessons, GUITAR LESSONS dammit!!!, but they dated for a while) before she switched to real estate moguls (she messily divorced him, he also had an unfortunate habit of filming and starring in home porn which can go awry in so many ways …).

But overwhelmingly the Runaways could have also been monikered Clitty & the Clam Münchers or Denise & the Dƶnut Bümpers. Of course – much like the sprouting breast hair of various BCR members – that was an industry secret.

Alas!, had I only known all that while their poster was in clear view from my bed! I feel deceived and sullied to this day.

PS: Lita hit it off with both Iommi and Blackmore I understood. And that was only because, born already1958, she was by 1976 way too old for Jimmy Page.

    @15

Uwe – Ian will be at Folkestone accessible by Eurostar/Chunnel. Ipswich is 25 mins on a train from Harwich – Hook of Holland ferry

@2 hiza – it’s a press junkett to advertise Ian’s tour and very well handled by Angela Rippon. Don’t expect documentary level journalism on a news program reporting on everything.

  25. 25
    RockVoorne says:

I m still in love with Suze Quatro.

Never found out if she was gay as well.

  26. 26
    timi bottoms says:

@ 22. Uwe those were the early years where Lita carried a little extra weight, but then filled out nicely šŸ˜Ž

  27. 27
    Uwe Hornung says:

Suzi is a mom (and grandmother) and twice married to men (1. Len Tuckey, her guitarist from the 70s, 2. her German manager), she was never gay, Catholic Italian girls from Deeeetroit don’t do stuff like that!

Lita still had a little puppy fat as a teen, I thought that was cute. Wie man sich bettet, so liegt man. Unlike today, not every young girl in music had to look like an emaciated concentration camp refugee back then. She wasn’t the prettiest Runaway though, I think Jackie Fox was.

Danke, Rubber, for the location tips, I had no idea! Never been through the tunnel either, only ferry, Hovercraft and plane. I have to work out the logistics.
