These are not the same guys

Yesterday, September 25, 2026, Ian Gillan has his ‘Mr. Grover, Mr. Gillian’ moment on the national TV in UK. He appeared for a brief interview on the prime time news program. We’ll try to forgive them, for they obviously don’t know what they are doing (and, as per bloody usual, sound like strapped for time). Ain’t no such thing as the bad publicity, though.

Thanks to Mark 1333 for posting this, and to steve4422 for bringing it to your attention.

Showing a clip of MK3 with GH screaming and relating this to IG, I am surprised IG didn’t walk out.
Maybe any publicity is better than no publicity.
    Peace ✌️

Who ever was responsible for the video clips in this report should be fired! I’m not going to go into detail, you all know what I’m talking about. Wow really embarrassing to say the least.

    Mike Whiteley says:

    Well,that was painful to watch.
    What a trainwreck.
Perhaps,IG’s failing eyes prevented him from seeing the clips properly.
He certainly showed remarkable patience with the” dumb question ” and major faux pas.

I watched this when it came up in my YouTube feed. I assume you’re referring to the clip of Mk. 3 that they showed. But I stopped watching at that point, so perhaps something even worse followed.

OMG, you trainspotters, it’s mainstream media, as long as they don’t welcome him as “Robert Plant”, all is well. 🤗

To be fair to the news media in question: It’s a lot easier to get the Led Zeppelin line-up of any given time right than DP’s myriad combinations! 🙈

It works both ways, Glenn has said that he has meanwhile given up correcting people when at dinners (where he and Gabi are invited to) one of the hosts or another guest introduces or addresses him as “the man who played on Smoke on the Water”, instead he just says politely thank you. 😂

People tend to forget that when SOTW peaked in the Billboard Hot 100 in late July and early August 1973 at #4, Mk II was already history, having officially dissolved in June that year. Glenn had already been announced as the new bassist and co-singer in mid July, DC was officially announced in September 1973. To a lot of people in the US, the widely televised Cal Jam in the following year was the first glimpse they caught of DP (unless they had been at a gig or looked closer at a record sleeve or music magazine). Unlike in Europe (and unlike Mk I in the US), Mk II never had TV studio appearances in the US during its four years of existence (those died down in Europe too after the initial years, I’m not aware of one after 1971, from then on it was always just filmed live footage).

Methinks a Castle full of Rascals is behind the editing desk. If I were Ian I would have laughed and said no, that’s not us.

Playing something from the previous album as new music was the icing on the cake for me. A comedy of errors all around!

Funny, Tarantino uses a lot of great music, incl this one and I think HUSH he used as well?

My sister who despised my tastes with a passion mentioned being a Tarantinofan.
    Ow, Dear!

The newsreader is one of our top newsreaders in the UK ( you can’t blame her , she’s obviously not a fan ) but it just really fucks me off when one of the world’s greatest ever rock stars and a total legend and institution is disrespected so appallingly.
Probably some producer behind the scenes, fresh out of uni , too busy squeezing their spots and listening to bollocks like Charlie xyz ( or whoever) to do their research properly….but we all know the truth , don’t we guys and gals !

Methinks some AI was involved in letting this snafu happen. The producer/editor’s ignorance didn’t help, either. “Dear AI, find me some good DP vid from the ’70s”. “Here you go, human master.”

    RockVoorne says:

    Charlie xyz???

She seems to be respecting the for her unknown musicians but yeah, its bad.

And Gillan just ignoring it, playing his part of the diplomatic elder statesman.

With his wit he easyly could have destroyed her.

    Was this live?
Was there a buzz of reactions
telling them this was pathetic ?

    Uwe Hornung says:

I don’t think that even modern AI has the storage capacity to cover all DP line-ups.

I like Charli xcx! She has an impeccable taste in men, anybody who can get the great Vincent Cassel to play in one of her vids is my girl!

I like the minimalism of the music too. Great rhythm guitar.

I wonder why they ‘interview’ people when the interviewer does all the talking.
