Jon Lord announces new album

Jon Lord will release his new all instrumental album, “To Notice Such Things”, on April 5, 2010 through Avi Records.

Jon Lord is getting ready to release To Notice Such Things

Titled after its main work – a six movement suite for solo flute, piano and string orchestra – the album was inspired by, and is dedicated to the memory of Jon’s dear friend Sir John Mortimer who died in January of 2009. Mortimer was an English barrister, a dramatist, screenwriter, author and creator of Rumpole of The Bailey.

– He was a great friend and a great inspiration to me and I hope my love and respect for him comes out in the music, says Jon Lord.

    Count me in, Jon!
Hope to see you one day again live in Holland.

Tilburg was a real privilege and it would be so nice that a date over here could be made possible again …..but I m afraid I ll have to go abroad ……

I wish he could do something with Ritchie in the same vein.
Think Anthem from The Book Of Talisyn!!!!

  5. 5
    Karl-Heinz says:

    Good news.

But with all respect for his great work, I would like to see a new “popular” CD by Jon Lord surface. More a mixture of “Sarabande” or “Before I Forget” – with fine Hammond sound and groovy piano.

But I also like his latest work, especially the “Durham Concerto” or the rather unknown “Coutry Diary Of An Edwardian Lady” (My favourite).

    I’m looking forward.

    Karl-Heinz

This is great news indeed! i still hold out for the day Jon and Ritchie will work together in some form again.
Very happy to hear Mr lord has new music.
UK tour dates would be great Jon!

  7. 7
    HZ says:

Great! Now we wait to see Jon do something with Ritchie – a little bit of these neo-classical things, and small retrospective. If they join for few live shows, good, that will be cool, if they do more than that, well, we’ll all be happy.

    Great news, good luck Jon.
A great musician AND gentleman you are !!!

    Cheers !!

    Peter Ilic says:

    Love Purples,

forget your differences, sit down together as men and TOGETHER allows one of the most recent major events in the rock music world, namely, the Deep Purple Mark II line-up.
Writing new songs and then goes on tour.
    We are waiting for you!
    Best regards,
    Peter

Tracy Heyder (aka Zero the Hero) says:

Not another Concerto…….I’ll buy it as usual, due to being a collector, but it may be played Once and then shelved in the storage zone with the rest.

Funny how he is getting a Pass on his turning his back on the Rock Music world, while Ritchie is constantly nagged at by the fans for doing the same thing….

    Just an observation…

    Cheers

    Crimson Ghost says:

Don’t hold your breath. It must be the difference between teenie boppers and mature fans. lol! It really does look that way, and I don’t see any existing differences between the two, you must be thinking of Blackmore and Gillan, not Lord. I don’t recall any Blackmore/Lord problems. They have lives you know, might that be the reason two who recorded so much together already, just aren’t up to it anymore? Kids have been kids and adults are adults, aging at that. Jon deserves credit for his post-Purple work merits alone. Call it a personal goal and either support it because you believe in what he is doing, or simply don’t. Its beautiful stuff either way imo.

  12. 12
Tracy Heyder (aka Zero the Hero) says:

Not sure you got my point Ghost.

My point was how ‘One’ is praised and the ‘Other’ is not in the realm of Abandoning Rock. I don’t care one way or the other. As I have always stated, I enjoy the BN material. To an extent, I can listen to the Concerto material from Lord, but it doesn’t drive me for more than 20 minutes. I agree with you regarding the fact that they should move on to what drives them. I support both of their efforts. I just pointed out the difference between the Fans acceptance of the 2 artists doing so….

    Cheers

    purplepriest1965 says:

I know SOME people are not very fond of the Classical Music stuff.

I am one of those who, not because the name Lord is stamped upon it BTW, who can truly enjoy his solo works and the Concerto, the 69 version that is…..

I can appreciate certain BN songs but it soon bores me to death.

And unlike the Lord work I find the format chosen not to be taken serious.
Lord s work can be shelved between REAL classical music while BNs work is a mediocre blend of styles while HE could have tried to make something resembling the REAL Dark Ages stuff.
Its really childs stuff and not to be taken very serious.
To me it lacks INTEGRITY, sorry.

  14. 14
    Svante Axbacke says:

Thanks, priest for posting what I was about to say. I agree totally.

  15. 15
Tracy Heyder (aka Zero the Hero) says:

    To each his own….

Again, this actually perpetuates my statement above. At least BN entertains the realm of what SOME would state is the sound of PURPLE. Whereby the Concertos do not. For those whom are so wrapped up in the Blackmore Sound to the point that they discredit anything else, it seems here again that LORD gets the PASS, for doing totally BORING Concertos, while Blackmore at least delves into the Medieval level which according to the Blackmore Worshipers is better than nothing….just remember..the ’69 production of the Concerto was only recognized by the PURPLE Followers. Aside from that, it didn’t matter. Nobody knows who JON LORD is outside of PURPLE. Just like Blackmore……..

Most of BN followers are also Blackmore Followers.
Same as for Lord ‘Concerto’ followers….

I love Lord and Blackers, but they must give credence to why they are given any attention at all.

    “It’s a PURPLE thing”. And That’s That.

    Cheers

    Rodrigo Fernandes says:

    Great News!
Jon Lord has always been THE musician.
The light in the black, the light in the Purple.
The light that shines on its own.
    Can´t wait to hear it.

  17. 17
    T says:

Blackmore’s Night is often criticized for being something other than Purple’s music, yet Lord gets a free pass for doing the same.

The psychology of this is very interesting. Deep Purple is a very personal matter for many of us. The resentment towards the founding member and author of most of what makes Purple great is a bit irrational.

It is possible that many fans have a subconscious aversion toward Blackmore because he “abandoned” Purple while Lord left on friendly terms.

I agree with purplepriest’s comment about classical music. I became a ‘fan’ of classical music because of the ’69 Concerto–and “April”–and Purple provided me with an opportunity to explore everything from blues to jazz and even post-modernism.

However, to excuse one member for branching out and not the other is a double-standard.

  18. 18
    purplepriest1965 says:

    @ 15

    I m puzzled again.
Being set away as a Blackmore worshipper I should say BN is better than nothing, but very clear daid again and again, I dont…..

I skipped several BN gigs, must admit that were hard choices.
Then again, I have skipped seeing DP after the early 2006 too.

    DP is Lord, Blackmore, Paice…….

  19. 19
    purplepriest1965 says:

Btw, can someone tell where to relisten to the MyPlanetRocks interview with Jon which was broadcasted last week?

Planet Rock has a relisten section but somehow I cant find the thing.

  20. 20
    purplepriest1965 says:

No reactions as so often on my question.

Could someone AT LEAST write down here what was said in the interview or should I conclude that the interview was boring and or repetetive?

Compared to the EXPLOSION of promotion on THS for the One Eye To Morocco album this appears very poor.

No inspiration to endorse a probably superior work, set against certain other solo efforts, this time?

Maybe Lordy is not that strong in mingling in THS buisness and others are?

  21. 21
Tracy Heyder (aka Zero the Hero) says:

Maybe this is more a Deep Purple Site than an Ex Deep Purple Site….

Lord left. Yes he is Great. Yes he is one of the founding Fathers. Yes, he is gone. ‘Since he is Gone’, he doesn’t rank as high as those who ARE DEEP PURPLE. Trust me, if he was still the Keyboard player for Purple, he’d be given a little more coverage than this. Airey got plenty of coverage for his solo efforts. You know why? HE IS IN DEEP PURPLE.

    Cheers

  22. 22
    Rasmus Heide says:

@20 – Whenever news is added to Jon’s own website, we report it on THS also. Perhaps you’d like to check out the extensive coverage of Jon’s new album on JonLord.org. There is an ongoing interview of which only the first two parts have been published so far.

  23. 23
    purplepriest1965 says:

    @ 21

    Bullshit.

This ought to be a Deep Purple site with coverage for everyone once involved.

There s plenty of proff THS does try to do that sometimes…..
Glenn Hughes and Bonamassa are not in DP.
The coverage of the Black Country thing is suddenly non interesting to you?
    I think not.
You are contradicting yourself again, mate.

    @ 22

I tried to find the INTERVIEW on his site as well, thank you.

I dont know why its not on there.

I ve got the impression Jon has not the enthusiasm for Internet and so on……

I am subscribed to the Planet Rock newslater.
I just forget it 2 times(…..) because I had other things on my mind as well…..
    Excuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuse me!

But I m only ME, THS might be able to the same like me, subscribing to sites like these?

Maybe Larry knows if its attainable somewhere?
Or is it out of sight because its without video?

  24. 24
    purplepriest1965 says:

    Tracy

I remember you complained of THS not approving of your experiences with BN a while ago.

1 BN is ex Purple and should be avoided?

2 If you think so, and even more so regarding your former negative and insulting comments towards them, why did you ask THS to put your experiences in a positive way on here?

3 Are you implying its THS that does suggest that this is a Deep Purple site and not about others……Because your contribution got rejected?

    But………….

I thought I had written the Planet Rock has a RADIO ON LINE part.
And the programme is called My Planet Rocks.
They do interviews with lots of intersting people like Jimmy Page, Ian Anderson and……Jon Lord.

    Hi T

Thanx for complimenting me once in a while….

It helps to lighten my days as a hard working never quitting maniac.

I see that you are truly agitated by the negative response certain people, incl humble me, are ventilating towards the BN thingy.

I also noticed you posten a certain piece of text on 2 threads!!!!

I m not very used to very long sentences from you as well.

Anyway, I ve been thinking about your theories concerning the Lord vs Blackmore debate and I m still a bit puzzled.

Hope you get back in shape soon!!!

    Cheers.

Tracy Heyder (aka Zero the Hero) says:

    #23, 24, and originally #20….

Priest, you really need to re-up your medication. Maybe even up the dose also…

My response at #21 was due to your entry at #20 regarding your crying that Lord isn’t getting as much attention from THS as Gillan. Your words. You are the one whom made the huge deal about THS picking and choosing which Purple Person gets the most attention…..

I made a simple statement based on a simple observation….

DEEP PURPLE is DEEP PURPLE. All others are NOT. They may have been in DEEP PURPLE at one time or another….but NOW SOME ARE NOT. Jon Lord is One of Those. Like it or not, this is a DEEP PURPLE site. Yes, it pertains to ALL THINGS PURPLE to some degree, but to my understanding..(Please Moderators Correct Me if I AM WRONG), it’s main focus is on DEEP PURPLE at Present. All else takes a Back Seat. No disrespect, nor discredit to Jon Lord here, just that he ain’t Purple anymore….

S0, YES….to your inquisition….Gillan reigns higher than Lord HERE at the present. If Gillan leaves Purple and Lord returns….then the opposite would be the case. But, right now PURPLE are Gillan, Glover, Paice, Morse and Airey. Sorry that still hurts you so much.

There you have it, the ‘stick people’ explanation is done…

    Cheers

A bit old and weak thing to try to stab me with the medication.

Maybe you were a bit high on adrenaline due to hunting in your backgarden?

Glad for ya, if thats the case.
Btw, my opnions are quite consistent no matter the drugs I use.

This site focussed on mainly the BRAND Deep Purple?
    Yes, brand!
What you are implying like many others is you re interested in the topics as long the NAME is involved.
On the other hand, like I said on an other thread I think, you seem to get exited with the BLACK COUNTRY thing-
Which is fine, but aRE they members of DP? Were they ever?Etc.

Good luck with stabbing OTR for whatever reason btw.

I ll enjoy it as long it runs.

    Cheers.

    purplepriest1965 says:

    Tracy

The FACT is that several new items on THS are related to Jon Lord.
THAT should adress your asking the moderators for an excluding answer IMO.

Btw, Still NO ONE CAME up with the link or answer to one of my my questions….

I ASKED more than once for a possibility to listen again to the INTERVIEW Lord did on Planet Rock radio in january!!!!!

To be more clear, I dont think its the same as the interviews on jonlord.org.
    Or is it, Rasmus?
    I dont think so.

I missed out on that Planet Rock one and in my perception also did Rasmus on jonlord.org.
Correct me if I m wrong, please.

    On a positive note.
Apart from the frustrating fact that I read it too late, my Planet Rock newsletter this week……that is…..

Jon seems to be involved on some kinda level again there(…)

I feel free to say, I have trouble understanding their site, that he HAS BEEN on The Rick Wakeman programme, this weekend.
It WILL BE REPEATED in a more extended version of the saturdayshow NEXT FRIDAY.

If I m wrong on the info, correct me please…..

    Have a nice weekend, Mark

    Rasmus Heide says:

Mark, I believe Planet Rock’s interview with Jon Lord is a re-run of this piece from May 2009:

    http://jonlord.org/2009/05/12/jon-lord-talks-to-rick-wakeman/

Alas, the links are dead and we don’t know what happened to their website.

  35. 35
Tracy Heyder (aka Zero the Hero) says:

Priest, you again misread what I entered….ok. Maybe is isn’t the medication prescription that needs upping. It must be your Eye Glasses that need to changing. I made it very clear that ALL THINGS PURPLE are obviously of interest here and are of course discussed and news worthy. I have been a part of most of the discussions of ALL THINGS PURPLE here and have also offered related topics. My point ONE MORE TIME here is that it is a DEEP PURPLE and RELATED site. PURPLE is the MAIN FOCUS and hold precedence over PURPLE RELATED topics. Surely you can comprehend that…..

    Cheers

    purplepriest1965 says:

Well, for the time being my ears and eyes and so on are still ok.
Will be 45 next april, so…..

Having the above in shape together with all my mainly non grey long hair, still all my original teeth and so on…..I m not exactly a Living Wreck.

    But…..

Having reached a peak in form around 3 years ago I gained again 20 KG due to, amongst other stress factors, an aching lower back.

    So its not all roses….
