Get yourself tangled up

Ian Gillan contributed vocals to a track on a new album from Italian band UROCK. The band is led by singer Umberto Urock, and the track in question is called The Line, which is the title track of the band’s second album.

Umberto lives just down the road from me in Portugal. He did a couple of interviews with me for various magazines, and UROCK did the Portuguese show on DEEP PURPLE’s tour [in 2022]. But the main thing I remember is when I went to Rome, I went to the radio station [Rome Rock, which Urock is involved in]. It was just like going to someone’s house, just a bunch of fantastic people.

They sent me some music they’d written. I thought: ‘That’s pretty good.’ One thing led to another, so I went in the studio down the road and sang on the track.

I would say to all the rock fans out there, you’ve just got to get yourself tangled up with ‘The Line’ and with UROCK. It’s fantastic. I wouldn’t have got involved in this had it not been a great tune, had they not been a great band โ€” and I’m very proud to be on the video and on the recording. So get out there and get involved.

The album is coming out in early 2026.

Thanks to Blabbermouth for the heads-up and quotes.

And so the seasons change: Big Ian sings a duet with another singer and does the lower, not the higher parts – changing of the guard so to say.

But it sounds real good, even echoing WDWTWAโ€˜s Place in Line a bit.

    I LOVE THIS!๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ

And of course Ianโ€™s voice is beautiful and together with the other vocalist from Urock theyโ€™re really going places ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

I was sort of expecting a horrible Christmas song with jingle bells and everything, so man Iโ€™m happy they turned all rock and no sentimental stuff ๐Ÿ˜„

    Cool!

Uwe, +1 on the Place in Line echo, I also got reminded of it

I like this stuff and I am very happy to note that Gillan is able to read (with his glass) that means for me that the situation is not so bad we read in the recent past.

Time of closure for this generation, for them extraordinary people, anglosaxon rockers. Coverdale: sisters of the snake, obedient serpent and all that efemer smalltalk… i like to think he realised how much it was worth and closed the door on those crazy little things. Gillan, a blind man, soldiers on trying to find something under the carpet.

Ian sounds good. But boring mid-tempo song

    Re the video above:

At 0:20 Ian reveals what I find a tremendous discovery! The great man does not – and I repeat NOT – drink teaโ€ฆ.. no he drinks coffee, neat – no sugar ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

As Uwe over and over have said: my work here is done!

    Great performance by IG… again!

Interesting to note how he gillanized the track, they’ve talked about it in interviews but you can also hear it.

Not sure about the other singer (though I remember his interview during the NW?! promotion campaign) but nice from Ian to accept.

Did Ian Gillan sing something about standing in line in ‘Who do you think we are?’ or am I mistaken ๐Ÿ˜‰
Like Ian Paice once said ‘All the cords and notes are all written before’ and I would say all Lyrics are written before.
Who cares anyway as music is free for all.

I had missed this news on the site, and yesterday after I saw the video on YouTube, I wrote to Swante to report it!

Anyway, the beautiful thing is the spirit of this little band of ordinary people who go to work every day, but have a passion for music that keeps them alive, and a rock God, our BigIan, arrived to make them realize a little dream
