The teacher didn’t look like Buddy Holly
In this undated interview, Ritchie Blackmore tells that the original motivation to play guitar was basically his desire to impress his school teacher.
The interview continues with his early musical influences:
Relationship with his parents:

Unauthorized copying, while sometimes necessary, is never as good as the real thing
Good interviews and I can relate to that early school discipline too from certain teachers. In many ways some of the teachers were out to get you, in that aspect. Fabulous early experiences for Blackmore during his teenage years. These Joe Meek recordings have Ritchie heavily featured, at 4.00minutes up to 7 minutes 35 on this Joe Meek documentary about Blackmore and his recordings with Joe Meek. Blackmore certainly learnt some innovative guitar from Jim Sullivan and a few others from that early 60’s era. Well ahead of the pack in certain aspects with his technique. Thanks for the videos.

November 18th, 2025 at 12:59By the look of Ritchie, the absence of his protective eyewear, the sound of his voice and the general interview setting, I‘d say that these interviews are from the same source material that fed the Eagle Rock two-hour-plus biography The Ritchie Blackmore Storyin 2015. I’ve always had the feeling that a lot of the source interviews with him had ended up in the cutting room when this came out. Maybe they have only now gained access to the material to release it completely?
I‘ve had the impression for a while that Candice, now that Autumn and Rory are moving into sub-adulthood, is assuming the role of becoming the curator of her husband‘s legacy. Which is good, someone has to do it and Ritchie certainly won‘t.

The thing about bad teachers is that my early influences on how to teach was don’t do what this one does, never do what that one does, and no, no, no not that one. Then eventually I started to steal the good ideas of the good ones.
