Another track from Gillan’s performance at Rock Goes To College from February 23, 1981, has been posted. Here’s Big Ian seeking Vengeance.

Thanks to Steve for not giving up.

Somehow I can understand why he joined Black Sabbath.
Some say it was a mistake but I say it was the best and most cleverest move that Ian Gillan ever taken.
They guy is very business minded.
    Peace ✌️

    So much energy 🤩

And what a voice that young man had!

Gillan (the band) certainly was going places, especially in Denmark I need to say ☺️

But my favourite live version is this https://youtu.be/nKFNLuYxYqM?si=gYe9-fxnXlSqghkL

A descent song, nothing more nothing less. But I do think he was wasting his talent a little with this speed rock with lyrics and clothes that looked and sounded like he was applying to join a bikers gang…

    Uwe Hornung says:

A simple song with a jaunty melody, let down further by an utterly unremarkable chorus which must have taken 10 seconds to write. 😑

It was among the first I heard from GILLAN when I saw this on German TV in early 1980 …

As a card-carrying IGB aficionado who had loved stuff like this here …

it came as somewhat of a culture shock to me and I thought to myself: Is this the way Ian really wants to go now, sing-and-clap-along happy rock along the lines of Bachman Turner Overdrive without the furs? 🙄 😂

Not one of my GILLAN favorites as you might have gathered then! It’s overtly banal. Luckily, more and better was to follow.

PS: John McCoy‘s bass intro is cool though.

    Uwe Hornung says:

Unrelated to the song, very likely no other principle has brought a greater amount of havoc, sadness and despair to this world than that terrible “eye for an eye” proverb, and not just in the Mideast either though it is especially crass there.

    It’s nihilism at its worst.

    Uwe Hornung says:

Ian’s Sabbath stint could never last for long, but it gave us Born Again, an album that has continually risen in public reception since it came out. It is a cult record by now.

I dare say from today’s vantage point it is a more influential album than Perfect Strangers (which compared to Born Again is painstakingly conventional, not wishing to alienate anyone).

Ian was out of his comfort zone and so was Sabbath, yet somehow their respective worlds merged to something new and exciting.

If they ever release that promised remix, it will sell like hot cakes.

They were very big in UK too …always on telly and radio…singles charting etc …and this was before the Internet!

Wiktor …you’ve got to remember it was late 70s , early 80s , he was just dressing to identify himself as a rocker …there was still punk about …skinheads were everywhere, new romantics ..plus others …they were very different days !
I’ve probably still got my denim jacket somewhere…with all the patches on ! I’ve even got a replica of his bootlace tie ! Lol
