New Blackmore’s Night video
Blackmore’s Night have released a new video Locked Within The Crystal Ball in support of their new album Secret Voyages. The album enjoyed reasonable commercial success and was at number 1 for two straight weeks on the New Age Billboard charts in USA.

Then I started to watch a bunch of other BN videos online there really is not much difference in them. If you like it you can have it but it not my cup of tea. You can see the rock in his hands just waiting to explode and so are we. I would not buy this music but I would go see them live if nothing else just to see the man in black!

No chart that matters….Personally I have a hard time separate one song from another,they´re pretty much the same!It´s like a xerox machine keeps spitting out the same song over and over again,where´s the nuances and versatility?Same old song and dance….can do without it…CRAP!

I personally enjoyed Ritchie Blackmore’s music when he was in “Deep Purple” and now in “Blackmore’s Night” because I appreciate both styles! Is that so unusual?

yes guitars have beatifull melodies,Blacmore has a very good approach to the structure,but to be RnR needs rock..and then you roll..this is not rock,is folk: that is my simple poor opinion..
if I play BNcd,I get sleeping after the 2nd piece..maximum at the 3rd..because i don’t feel rock.
it is olnly for the real B’s fans,not for all and

He lost his singing vocals decades ago. And that’s what matters. Watching Come Hell Or High Water is embarrasing to hear Ian attempting to fake his way through Highway Star, Child In Time or anything else. Hang it up already.

You fall under the same old Pin Head Blackmore is God platform, so there is only one response necessary because the likes of you can only focus through your “pointy little hat and shoes”.
Regarding your Bashing Morse and Gillan, while Sucking Blackmore’s “Plinky Finger”….Read On:
I doubt you will find anyone able to emulate Steve Morse as easily as this young Japanese kid can copy Blackmore. Know Why? Complexity. That’s why. Blackmore took a simple “plinking style” of play and gave it character. “His Character”. That’s the beauty of Blackmore. The simple cords of SOTW were as simple as they come, but it was a “Blackmorism”. That is the beauty of Blackmore.
Now, take technical and precise ability? Morse will kick his ass all over the place. Just to prove to all of the “Blackmore Worshipers”, I would love to witness Steve Morse do a “Blackmore Tribute” showing that he can not only emulate Blackers, but take it to another level. He could and is very capable, but he is too much respective of the old geezer and would never go to that extreme. He is quite the gentleman.
Blackmore may be “King” in the ‘Lost Blackmore Kingdom’, but Morse “REIGNS” in the present ‘Purple Kingdom’ and has done so for 15 years. Sorry to say here but he could never be emulated by Blackmore. This I Guarantee. As with the live renditions that Morse does, covering the MK2 material….when he wishes, he totally emulates Blackmore where he feels necessary for the “purist’s sake”, but overall, makes the songs ‘his own’. Blackmore could never pull that off.
And You Know IT!!!! Unless of course you are in denial as is the fact that Purple is just fine without Blackmore and you can’ accept that.
As far as Gillan goes, you are out of your head. Aside from losing a slight hint of his screams and highs, he is more “Spot On” today overall than back in the day. It’s the overall performance that you have to concider. Unless of course you have your eyes and ears closed to the reality due to it not fitting into your narrow view of music and performance. You probably have a hard time humming the riff of Smoke on the Water, because it’s soooooo technical in your little Blackmore is God world.
OK….must cage the emotion….must grab a cocktail….must jump in the hot tub….must crank up some Dixie Dreggs and hear the guitarist whom saved Purple from the man who ‘Abandoned’ the greatest band the earth has ever known, for his selfish ego. Thanks Steve for jumping into the frying pan and re-lighting the fire and creating Purple of the present. This too will someday be a part of past ‘Purple Passages’, but if not for you, we’d be stuck listening to ‘Battle Rages On’, JLT’s ‘S&M’ (hmmmmm isn’t that the same initials for sado-masochist?) crap or everything before. Personally I prefer the newer stuff, even though I am an old fogy. That has to count for something.
Oh and by the way,,,,,I’m old, drunk and diggin’ Purple-more. Take your Black-more and frolic in the forest…..It’s all he is worth anymore. So join his little “Merry Keebler Elves” and dance to the lameness.

1. Why would anyone want to emulate Steve Morse, ever?
No classic riffs, no timeless melodies, no authoratative tone – just that same corny milk-and-honey widdle every time, with a few contrived wails thrown in here and there for ‘spontaneity’. He is technical for the sake of being technical – I think it is a nonsense to say he has taken Blackmore’s music to another level – he doesn’t even get the basics of Deep Purple right, let alone add to it. If you want to hear DP at another level, check out the best moments of Mark IV with the late great Tommy Bolin. And listening to Akira Kajiyama playing “Mistreated” on Hughes-Turner Project’s ‘Live In Tokyo’ should make you realise how much better Deep Purple would be without Morse.
2. Ian Gillan’s vocal these days is spot on, you say, more so than back in 70s. What an amazing comment!! (especially on “Highway Star” I presume, complete with hopeless Morse ‘other level’ intro!) The main reason our formerly masterful Mr G. might sound OK today is because he has a a guitarist with a weak and watery tone (the antithesis of hard rock) behind him – he’s not being pushed too hard.
3. You PREFER the Steve Morse stuff to classic DP. Wow!!! Each to their own I say…Personally, I will never tire of hearing the first 25 years of Deep Purple music (yes that includes MkV with Joe Lynn Turner), it will always have something new for me, every time I hear it. Being such a DP fan I tried hard to get into Morse, but then I realised with the classic stuff, you don’t get into it, it gets into YOU.

My point was entirely ignored by your response. My statement regarding the ability to “Copy” either of the 2 guitarists style was regarding the fact that like it or not, Blackmore’s style of play is emulated all the time by the “Purple Cover Acts”. There are a shitload of them and for the most part, they can sound and play just like Ritchie. By the same token, I guarrantee, there are few guitarist around who can emulate Steve Morses style of play as easily. Your preference as to which style you like more is a personal taste that has nothing to do with any of the statements I made. I love all of the Blackmore music, including Blackmore’s Night. But at the same time, I also love the Morse era. The Present era, and most likely the Final Era. I had every Morse album before he joined Deep Purple. His solo stuff and the Dixie Dreggs. What’s great about choosing him….HE SOUNDS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT!!!!! Now, whe get a whole new approach to the Old Tunes that I grew very weary of hearing the Old Way. I did not say that I prefer Morse over Blackmore. I respect them both as equals. They are guitarists of very different style and the Deep Purple records they both are a part of are equally as valid. You bring up those other guitarists because they try to sound like Blackmore and that is what you like. But the rest of your argument falls under that Pin Head, narrow minded “Blackmore Rules” bopper BS. That’s fine for you I guess. But then, you “Blackmore Rules” folks are the only ones whining like little Fat Girls because your great Hero has left the building……”Truth Hurts, so does Love”. I’d hate to be that much in love with Blackmore. Ohhhh the pain…..
Morse was voted “Best Guitarist” for 5 years in a row, in Guitar Magazine. Not a “Fan Mag”, a Guitar Mag, by guitar players.
The Gillan issue again, was mis-quoted. What I stated was that aside from the extreme high pitched screams on the records with Child in Time or Highway Star, everyhing in between is definatel spot on. My Back in the Day remark didn’t necessarily pertain to ’72. But that’s ok. Again, his voice is in great form overall, but only the Nit Picky negative toward the present Purple will smash the guy for having trouble with the extremes of the screams. If that’s what you need, let me introduce you to my X-wife……

August 22nd, 2008 at 08:14Mr Heyder: Steve Morse sounds totally different to Blackmore and players that are influenced by him, that’s for sure: no other player in the world (amateur or professional) can play classic DP with as weak and inappropriate a tone as him. As for Mr. Gillan’s voice, if you think I’m nitpicking..more power to you – it hasn’t done much for me since the mid-80s.
Mr Dawg: (please quit the caps they give me a headache) I said the best of Tommy Bolin, not the worst! There is some awesome playing by him on “California Rehearsals”, “Russian Foxbat” and “Come Taste The Band”. He delivered the goods with the songwriting and riffs too: Love Child, Drifter, Getting Tighter, Coming Home etc. etc. Tommy Bolin understood and could play the basics of hard rock style and understood its parameters very well, he did that without sounding like anyone else. That’s what anyone playing Deep Purple guitar players needs to do.
And for the TRILLIONTH time I do not support Blackmore’s Night!! I like hard rock played with balls, that kicks ass, that sends shivers down your spine, etc. etc. There is not much of it around these days, but the hype has never been greater.

As with Tommy Bolin, he was recruited and paved his own way, with his own style of playing. Your discription of Morse’s playing being “weak and inappropriate a tone”, is your typical oppinion when for whatever reason you dislike someone period. He is well rounded and plays hard when it is needed and lighter at the same time when needed. He is a true professional and has proven that he IS Deep Purple’s Guitarist and his style is their sound and a welcome one at that. Yes, your little band of Ritchie Lovers maintain your S.O.S. Morse Bashing….but as with your name…’Truth Hurts’, you guys are the only ones feeling the pain, while Deep Purple and the fans whom have moved on and respect WHAT IS are happy as can be, enjoying some outstanding music by this 15 year old version of Purple that has taken a more present approach to their music than staying stagnant and rehashing the “Blackmore Style” over and over again.

p.s. I haven’t heard everything that JLT has done, but what I do hear largely impresses me – his vocal is still pitch perfect, his phrasing smooth and expressive. He does aim to ‘kick-ass’ every time, even if he doesn’t always hit the mark.
Not being a Christian Fundamentalist, I don’t have a problem with long hair, heavy make-up, heels, skirts on a man – the domain of kings, lords, princes and kings for thousands of years. ‘Real’ man (i.e. rough appearance,aggressive) and ‘real’ woman (ridiculously over-feminised,gold-digging) of today is a direct emulation of the bisexual ‘cultures’ of ancient Greece, Sparta and Lesbos.
It’s interesting to see how frightened and afraid of an individual fundamentalists can be, despite absolute saturation of advertising, media, movies etc. Perhaps head to your nearest church for guidance? Be sure to dress as a schoolboy, that’ll surely get the attention…

To clarify: I actually like JLT when he sticks to his own material,old Rainbow numbers and the S & M era! But when he recyle and rehash songs he had nothing to do with,as “Burn”,”Stormbringer” and “Hush….he´s just tasteless and trying to gain unjustified credit for something he had nothing to do with!Unless you have contributed to a song(lyrics,melody,original recording or whatever)…don´t do it!!It´s a question about respect and integrity,and that´s why we never will hear Ian Gillan sing any MK III material….he had nothing to do with it!!
