Upcoming releases

Several Deep Purple archival (re)releases are currently in production due for later this year:

  1. The 35th anniversary edition of Come Taste The Band with the album freshly remixed by Kevin Shirley and mastered by Bob Ludwig.
  2. A blue ray edition of Rises Over Rapan with 5.1 surround sound and a newly produced documentary showcasing the Mk4 period.
  3. A 30th anniversary edition of Deepest Purple with an extended track listing and bonus DVD featuring newly created from archival footage music videos for Child in Time, Woman from Tokyo, Stormbringer and Might Just Take Your Life.

As for the current lineup, performance at the Caribana Festival in Crans-près-Céligny, Switzerland on June 9th was recorded in 3D video.

We have no further info. Just a sneak suspicion that a certain Funky Claude, who was always quick to embrace new technologies, might have been involved. Once the technology settles in, the show might be released in whatever will be the format of the day.

Always love to read on the internet way before something ‘might’ happen. Where does it leave what WILL happen? Speaking of course of the 3D fimling and whether it will see a release or not. The internet is responsible for one hell of a lot of hopes never ending well.

3D eh! I really can’t see the point, it’s not as if they have fire breathing dragons on stage(leave that to Maiden)that would make a 3D show really stand out, remastering old shows to Blue-ray would be better value(come hell or high water to mention one)remove the chat between tracks and reinstate deleted tracks would be better investment.

Looking forward to the CTTB remaster, but is there going to be a standard DVD version of the Rises Over Japan film with doc in tact?

I assume a DVD of ROJ will also be forthcoming?

As for the “Deepest Purple” reissue – first I’ve heard about this – it seems a tad unlikely, no? Another compilation?

    well let´s see
I´m very anxious about teh CTTB remasters.
Good for the ROJ blue ray…please make it also available on regular dvd.
As for the new produced videos. There will be nothing new, the studio audio synched to existing footage.
there is also talk about a MIJ documentary with the b/w footage. I hope this comes first.

ROJ was shot on 16 mm film and thus will not benefit much from a bd transfer.
was Come Hell.. shot on film or regular video? if the latter it’s not much use to release it in a HD format (unless they do it for the sake of the sound that is, a HD soundtrack would be great)

CHOHW was shot on film. 35mm I believe. Sydney 12/14/84 was also shot on 35mm film.

    @ 1

You seem to suggest everything is wishful thinking right now.

WHO is , ahem, responsible for blocking loads of real good stuff?!

It s not solace that mabe the new DP fans in 2050 will harvest more than we ever did!!!!!

IMO Deepest Purple is not “another” compilation. I think it is, among a big and often sloppy many, THEEEEE DP compilation – along with 24 Carat Purple, of which I’d love a decent reissue as well. I’m definitely looking forward to have that back (I used to have it on vinyl). That is long as the artwork – legendary!!! – remains and “extended song list” doesn’t mean they add Emmaretta or Hold On. I’d like to have the full version of Speed King (the 1980 edition omitted the “Woffle” bit), elongated Black Night and Strange Kind Of Woman (from the DPIR and F 90s reissues). Please no Hush and – for this one time – no live things as well – it would mess up the essence of that disc. I know, I’m not the one who decides about those things – just my feelings about the whole thing…
