One of my favorites!! Seems Jon was messing around on his Hammond and someone brought up “Flight of the Bumble Bee”. I don’t believe it was ever tried live.
July 19th, 2026 at 16:39Along with Child in Time, this was always my favorite track on In Rock. It has an MC5ish/Stooges-ish garage/stoner rock quality to it. I found the way IG’s almost childlike (McCartney-esque?) and merry initial vocal melody in the first part of the verse skips over the music/almost primal riffing very appealing. It is to me one of the few hummable songs of In Rock. Too bad it was never played live.
July 20th, 2026 at 13:43Hi Uwe. I agree about Gillan’s vocals. I believe that during the Morse years they practiced it but couldn’t get that right groove to play it live. Too bad. The part that sticks in my head most is Lord’s Hammond. Kicks A$$! 🙂

#5 Live in Stockholm is Fabulous from start to finish!! Child in Time is BRILLIANT!! So is Live in Copenhagen 1972 and the version of Child in Time on there is also brilliant!! The band at their very best!!! My favorite reunion version of CIT is on Live in Stuttgart 1993. Say no more! And now I’m off to the Ministry of Silly walks! 🙂 Cheers!

I always imagined them opening with Fllight of the Rat and by the end of it … Ian Paice just turns his last hits (as can be heard on In Rock) into the drum pattern that starts off Rat Bat Blue. A perfect fit, don’t you think.

Hopefully all DP members still have their sense of humor. Listening to the RB interviews of a few months ago, his sense of humor is still intact!

I am happy to hear that my all time favourite guitarist still enjoys a good laugh.
And we know for sure that Ian Gillan, the all time Rock’n’Roll gentleman, has a wonderful sense of humour, sarcastic and a bit grotesque just like Eric Idle and co!
For the next album I would simply love if they put that little deadly rabbit on the cover 😄

July 22nd, 2026 at 10:05I like the comments of the drummer guy, also his observation how incredibly raw In Rock sounds compared to Machine Head, which is both its strength and its weakness.
As for the refreshingly nose wrinkle free Ms Aaliyah Capili, I agree that RJD’s technical vocal performance on the Munich Mistreated is great, but not once do I get the feeling that he is singing about having been jilted and failing to come to grips with the loss. He tackles the song in an operatic way, but that is not what this song – a Blues number – at its core is.
