It’s not the real deal
British newspaper The Independent quotes an interview Paicey gave to the Press Association. It was most likely done on the occasion of you-know-what, however they have found Ian’s thoughts on the proliferation of artificial intelligence tools more interesting:
Paice warned against the dangers of hidden AI use, particularly when artists themselves are unaware. “But where that information is hidden from people, that’s a problem, and especially if it’s hidden from the artist too. I don’t have a problem, whatever I am is my right to sell or not sell, but it’s not their right to take it.”
The iconic drummer, known for his work on tracks like “Smoke on the Water”, expressed concern that AI could lead the public to believe they are listening to human artists when, in reality, they are hearing “a computer algorithm”.

He also says that governments should urgently set limits, but for fear of alienating America and big tech, governments are slowing down, and in fact, the damned data centers continue to be built!
Lombardy, the region where I live, with 73 data centers already active (a third of Italy) and another 20 planned in the next 5 years with costs ranging around 20 billion, is all wrong!
The consume energy (we are talking about 84 gigawatts of demand from energy managersm..Peak withdrawal in Italy reaches up to around 57 gigawatts!!…),
consume water (We are currently in a drought emergency, the great Po river has never been in such a crisis as this year, the agricultural areas are rationalising the water),
create heat (and the Po Valley is already a hot, muggy and smog-filled area),
consume land (because to speed up the work, big tech prefers virgin soil and not soil that needs to be reclaimed).
Thousands of hectares of agricultural parks and forests are being cut down, along with the devastation wrought in the mountains for the Milan-Cortina Olympics, along with the devastation they are inflicting on the new USELESS “Pedemontana” highway that is cutting Brianza in two, concrete and CO2 galore with forests and biodiversity annihilated!
People protest, but it’s all useless, everything is always decided first by politicians, builders and businessmen who only think about money.
and finally contaminate the inhabitants’ aquifers, as has happened in several places in America!
Sorry for the outburst, I hope that deserving people evolve together with animals into a new form of life, exactly as BigIan says

July 5th, 2026 at 13:41I hope that in your area Neil the Seal will be left alone by stupid humans, and the authorities will refrain from putting down the animal who is innocent and is simply a poor wild creature!
I wonder why Neal the Seal is not simply put in a zoo )with spacious surroundings) or some marine farm – he apparently likes the proximity of humans and enjoys ‘performing’ for them. Now that is not a “normal” thing for an adult seal to do, but for whatever reason he is different.
It reminds me of Robby, the German circus chimp who had been living for most of his life with a circus family in their trailer – he was no longer performing at old age -, but he ate, slept and watched TV with them. The hell was that species-appropriate for a male chimp (he had been neutered by a pre-owner), but it was the right life for him as an individual being and also the only one he knew. For years, well-meaning, but misguided animal activists wanted to put him into a chimp colony (an enclosed one under human supervision) so he could “readjust to a semblance of wild life”. I thought that was a preposterous idea (for him specifically, not for chimps in general). Scientific recommendations of what to do with him went back and forth, the authorities didn’t know what to do. Of course his behavior was deformed, the circus family basically treated him like a special needs child of theirs, but as an individual he saw them as his tribe (he was even scared of other apes and couldn’t connect with them). Anyway, he luckily died at the biblical age of 51 (for a chimp) in 2022, before he could be torn away from his adopted human family who were at his side when he died.
