They come in threes

Here’s the latest triplet of snippets from that Ritchie Blackmore interview, talking about days long passed, Don Arden, Jerry Lee lewis, the other Man in Black, earning hemorrhoids with Screaming Lord Sutch, and taking the blame for Gene Vincent.

Previous instalments: here and here.

The Man in Black, Johnny Cash, happy days eh? I will try to get in first before Uwe does, (with would be an utter miracle). In regard to the no rehearsal with Jerry Lee Lewis, we wonder if Ritchie was heading along those lines with this old habit with the 2016 Rainbow rehearsals. Oh, how very droll and sharper than the serpents tooth. Cheers.

There’s another bad habit Ritchie picked up, with the Gene Vincent ‘incident’. Blaming someone else he he he. Oh I am paying out today on poor ole Ritchie. Uwe would be enjoying that, wouldn’t he? Cheers.

    @1 & 2

You succeeded MacGregor! 😃 (beating Uwe I mean!)

Yes Ritchie is something else.. and handling a guitar he is pure genius!

    Thank You again !

..it seems there´s a silver lining on this rainy Sunday after all. (The snow right here is gone now.)

2016…it´ll be ten years gone very soon. Just can´t believe it.

I guess MacGregor did see Ritchie with that incarnation of Rainbow then, on that tour?

Maybe it´s just my memory, but I was having time of my life in Birmingham.
The roar of Ritchie´s Strat was awesome. Just like the sound of the version of the song Mistreated of the Made in Europe -record! So mighty and great!

…but if something really (talking about it now) was amazingly disappointing, was the drummer section as a whole. Playing, the tiny set, no drumriser whatsoever… ?! What !?
    …never missed Cozy more.

…and I´m the one who has been in that mindset that our hero is very precise in everything concerning, not only the sound and playing itself, but outlook and image of the lineups, too.

    But still I´m not sad!
Thank You again! Keep these clips coming, please!

Kippis (..and it´s coffee for me, please) !

Remember to shake hands while you´re playing !

@ 4- Hiza, I didn’t attend any of those Rainbow shows as I am out here in Australia, safe and sound he he he. I did watch a few songs online at the time of those concerts. I can imagine Ritchie’s Stratocaster would have sounded grand. I enjoyed the Russ Ballard cameo on stage playing Since You Been Gone from the 2017 concert. Here is a recent short interview I just found with Russ talking about those two songs (also I Surrender) that Rainbow covered back in the early 80’s and him getting to know Ritchie that night in England. Glad you enjoyed the show you attended. Yes the drummer was a bit low key and could have been more prominent from what I watched online. Cheers.

    Uwe Hornung says:

I wrote nothing because I simply had (and have) nothing to say to formative 60s Ritchie. He was a gifted youth and any negative traits had not yet become evident.

Watching these vids from 10 years ago, you do of course notice how father time and health issues have gnawed away at him in recent years.

Besides, I prefer it if drummers are slightly ahead of the beat rather than behind it, so Herr MacGregor was more than welcome! 😎
