Sound as a pound

Ritchie Blackmore gave one of his rare interviews to the Rock of Nations podcast. The excerpt of the conversation has been published, with the full interview said to be “out soon”. Hint: you may want to turn down the volume for the extremely loud intro.

Thanks to BraveWords for the heads-up.

Crikey. Ritchie sounds old and Candice sounds like his carer.

That Ozzy creep was literally “snotty” to our Ritchie, un-be-liev-able! 😂

What’s so hard about saying to someone: “You have something hanging there, you might want to wipe your nose a little?” 😂

But then they didn’t have AI back then or Ritchie could have known:

    AI Overview

Yes, you should tell someone they have something in their teeth if you can do so discreetly and if they can fix it quickly. The goal is to save them from future embarrassment, and a kind, private heads-up is a helpful act of social grace.

    How to tell them discreetly

Use a simple, non-judgmental phrase: Instead of “You have food in your teeth,” try something like, “There’s something there” while pointing to your own teeth.

Catch their eye privately: If you’re nearby, make eye contact and subtly point to your teeth to signal that they should check themselves.

Pull them aside: If possible, wait for a moment to speak to them alone. A trip to the restroom or a quick private word works well.

Whisper or write it down: For a larger group, whisper the information or subtly pass them a note.

Make it a shared “problem”: Ask, “Hey, do I have anything in my teeth?” to give them a chance to ask you the same question in return, says HowStuffWorks.

Why it’s helpful: It prevents greater embarrassment later on. It’s a kind and thoughtful gesture, as they can’t see it for themselves.

PS: Of course, Ritchie, could have always elegantly (and incorparating aspects of Ozzy’s colorful history) put it: John Michael, is that bat saliva running from your nose? 🤣

Cocaine does that to the sinuses and the nose, doesn’t it? But then again, so does the common cold or flu symptoms. Poor Ozzy, who would have thought that after seeing that image of him back in the 1970’s sticking his finger up Bill Wards’ nose. Which I cannot fine at all online. Or even this photo of Ozzy experimenting with one of his nostrils and a spoonful of sugar perhaps? Cheers.

I thought as much when I heard him (and so did Edith who was listening by chance), but then he is old, he’s 80, and Candice, like any woman 26 years younger than her husband, is concerned about his degenerating health. She already knows that she will outlive him. When I heard her interjecting a few times, helping him, I had a picture of a worried frown on her brow. At least the seems to be in good hands, that is gonna be of more and more importance in the next years.

The alternative to an increasingly frail Ritchie would have been one dying younger – none of us wanted that.

Ozzy has always been an advocate for a drug-free life:

The Black Sabbath image is probably from 1973 to ’74 era, Iommi with no moustache. By ’75 and the Sabotage images have Iommi appearing back to ‘normal’ again. Cheers.

Doctor Uwe is back again, hello Doc, how have you been lately? Seriously Uwe, Blackmore’s missus doesn’t ‘know’, she may only hope or presume that that will be the case. As you are well aware anything can happen in this life. Regarding the interview, Ritchie isn’t the only ageing gent in the rock music world, that we notice with their potential issues in these later day interviews. I won’t mention any other names but the memory, response to questions, pausing (part of memory again) and even the pronunciation of certain words is, as we know a normal part of the aging process. It can happen to people a lot younger too unfortunately. Doctor MacGregor now signing off.

@6. Indeed. Not that I ever thought he’d play with Purple again but as time has passed i’m more than glad that it never happened.

Perfect description of Ozzy as someone who doesn’t tend to believe his own reputation. I think that’s one of the reasons Ozzy was so popular and beloved; he always seemed to be be a (very rich) working class kid and a fun guy to hang around

    Tillythemax says:

@7 Yeah, that’s what he always been like. Clearly he’s planing on safely disposing any chemical substances here:

@2 – Ritchie does sound older. Candice has been helping him through interviews for years, though, repeating the questions he is too deaf to hear.

    Uwe Hornung says:

Learned colleague Dr MacGregor, I hate to break it to you, but last I looked mortality statistics strongly favored 26 years younger females over their octogenarian male husbands born at the end of WW II. Empirically, you are facing an uphill battle.

But as ‘Seance Ritchie’ will be reborn anyway (as he already has a couple of times), it’s all very academic in any case.

I just came across this doco on Joe Meek and his crazy ‘Freakbeat’ singles from 1964 to ’67. At approximately 3 minutes 55 there is quite a bit on Ritchie and we get to hear a few wild and even some shred guitar solos up until about the 7.40 mark. There are certainly a few there that I have not heard before plus a couple of rare images too. Cheers.

The original Ozzy interview quote about Ritchie being ‘as sound as a pound,’ missed out the part where he said Ritchie loved beer and blondes with big t**s. Think it was in Kerrang! back in the day.
