Space Truckin’ Round The World
Classic Rock magazine reports that there is a new live compilation in the works by Purple Records. It will be released in November and will mark the 10th anniversary of the label. The double CD compilation will be called Space Truckin’ Round the World Live 68-76.

The show at Granada Tv never had it’s official audio version, and they put it there just to make a stupid reason for all time collectors to buy this nonsense.
And to make things worse, the selection of the songs is absolutely horrible.
Mandrake root from Montreux 1969…???? Oh come on !
That was there first show ever as a Mark II and, all of the songs seem unprepared (which was absolutely normal).
They should have put at least as one of the biggest rarities, Kentucky woman which Gillan sang. That would be normal thing to do. I’m so disappointed with this “live collection”. Cause my opinion is that, this kind of compilation of live remastered recordings (made by Purple records) is absolutely unnecessary thing to do in this moment…
I hope that someone will agree with me, but i was disappointed when i first read the set list last week…

Also in the news they called Deep Purple “a Smoke On The Water Band” (notwithstanding the fact that it’ll be the first DP live album [since Machine Head’s release] not to feature Smoke on it’s tracklist 😀

1 year ago some false news spread over the internet that Deep Purple would release new live 2 disc set called “Rapture Of The Live”, it would feature tracks from several gigs of the Rapture Tour, including 7 songs from that album which was played live (ROD, KTG, WM, BTB, JB, BTB, WDG and DLG)
I would be happy to have album like that, which covers modern Deep Purple… and NOT the album compilation which features live songs which we already have listened on the tens of DP live albums…

Doing Their Thing is NOT BBC but Granada TV so maybe there lies a bit of trouble sorting out rights to come to a definitive live in the studio MK 2 CD?
In the meantime I make my own samplers

You could take the the ‘audio out’ from the vcr/dvd player and plug it into the ‘audio in’ of a standalone hi-fi CD recorder e.g. Pioneer, Philips, Marantz etc.(phono to phono connection)
Or if you want to do it on computer, get a 2-phono to mini-jack lead going into the ‘mic in’ input of your PC. You can ‘capture’ the files using Audacity freeware, edit and save the files and then burn a CD.
Personally I prefer the first method for sound quality reasons, and have created many excellent sounding CDs doing it this way.

@ OP: I expect this kind of thing from EMI who continue to put out compilations from this period with good reason – they sell and bring a new younger audience to the band. I doubt if this live collection will do the same but you never know. I don’t need to buy it so I won’t and therefore have no reason to complain about it’s existence. I do think though that they (Purple Records) should reconsider this. If they want to celebrate the bands 40th anniversary year then there are other ways of doing it. I fully understand that the label can only handle material from this period and nothing from the reunion years but there are other projects waiting in the pipeline that need to be pushed along.

October 14th, 2009 at 23:41Time to Broaden the thought patter for this one. Not Everyone on this Planet are as thorough as WE ARE in the realm of having and hearing All things Purple. There are many out there who don’t even know there were Purple albums made after Machinehead. Hell, I don’t know how many people I speak to TODAY that has no idea they are still a band. So, this little ‘Waste of Time’ compilation, as useless as it is for those who frequent this site, is Very Obscure for those out there whom have been ‘out of the loop’.
Priest, I believe Ghost was making the point that Buying supports the Label, and promotes future offerings due to sales. Nobody buys, no more output. They have put out some really good stuff most of the time. It can’t all be YOUR CUP of Tea. Believe it or not Mark, there are other people out there besides you……You may be lonely, but your not alone…..

I already understood the OPINION of CG about the so called reasons of not putting out releases anymore because nobody is buying anymore.
But thanx, duh, Tracy for enlightning me.
CG triggers an old discussion.
Reality has been very cruel to those who thought they could keep CD prices unreasonable high.
They could have turned the tide and still making lots of profit.
I d loved to buy originals all the time instead of less and less……
Actually I did for a long time, feel, ahem, the need to have the originals which already felt COLD to me compared to vinyl….. instead of even more COLD copies.
Reducing, IMHO it should have been at least 50 percent of what they asked for many many many years, the price might have kept byers in?
The people who just had got unwillingly or very willingly used to cd s got RIPPED OFF when buying the first generations of cd releases.
Too often unrespectful editions where the quality suffered,the artwork being reduced to Bonsai reading and so on.
The prices they asked for inferior products was criminal.
I make an exclusion for discs that were recorded after the beginning of the CD era.
Compared to oldies transferred in a bad way to disc these seemed to be quite ok, still.
But ofcourse, even there it was just a beginning.
My FIRST CD was WILD FRONTIER by Gary Moore.
It sounded great I thought.
I must have paid about 18 Euro in 1987 for it.
Years later the EXTENDED EDITION plus EXTRA ARTWORK was released and that one was affordable for about 9 Euro s!!!!
So it depends on which moment you started to buy cd s if you got ripped or not.
In retrospect I should have hung on to VINYL, even buy some more cheapies for almost nothing from the 2nd hand store and politely wait for the later generations.
Ofcourse WAITING is not my strongest trait.

Once getting used to digital unromantic formats it was just a step into DOWNLOADING EVERYTHING to get a few bucks back in ones pocket after all those years of being ripped off.
I do understand the feeling of people loosing their money this way but…..
I m not in a position to be idealistic.
Actually I am but I cant behave accordingly.
The parallel with having problems with eating meat sourcing from discutable sources is there.
Its not an very good excuse IMHO but I m one of those people that buy very cheap and trying to push away the gulty feelings about the poor animals being mistreated instead of living a great life before they end on my plate.
Yeah, I know its a CHOICE.
I admit, I m weak.
Just trying to survive in this perverted world.
Right now I dont know what to do.
I did do budget on cd already for years now and by now I feel like ……
Why start that insane behaviour again?
I have other priorities too which should have overruled my addiction to music, incl attending gigs, 20 years ago already.

First of all one is addicted to getting new music still.
The industry is getting very succesfull in releasing products you are not able to copy.
Prices will remain high.
Old vinyl and new vinyl seems like an option but ofcourse apart from the limitations they ask already very much for those too.
There s no way back I think.
People were used to buying what they were served and for years now we see an overwhelmingly mass that wants to consume without having to save for a release….
Its just a change which HISTORY repeats sometimes.
People have to adapt.

What do the musicians do?
Is the solution really NOT releasing any material because they want to get paid?!
If they were TRUE in hearts and minds they would release their creatice off spin anyway.
Maybe Deep Purple could have recorded new songs ONLY live and on DVD because thats a markets that still thrives~?
