Public demonstration of friendship

Classic Rock publishes an account of Ritchie Blackmore appearing on stage with Deep Purple on this past tour, with some input from Ian Gillan and a few Blackmore quotes taken from the recent Guitar Player interview. Nothing was said that we haven’t really heard before, yet here it is.

“It was an absolute pleasure to have back on stage the founder member, the great legend, the immortal Ritchie Blackmore,” Gillan told the still-disbelieving audience. “Thanks, Ritchie. I must say it was a great pleasure. I’ll see you in the bar.”

Who bought the first round in the bar?

“Well, I brought along a bottle of whisky and had a couple of drinks for the first time in years at the venue,” Gillan revealed.

No matter how massive the “storm”, it will be brought down by the power of friendship.

It was wonderful for us old guys to see Ritchie back on and off stage with Deep Purple. Like the world slowly getting back on course!

How was the toast raised with whisky? … Maybe a song together?

Smooth Dancer perhaps? That was always a jaunty tune with many truths in it.

Good the hear Ian Gillan has been off the booze over the last so many years. Wasn’t whiskey Ritchie’s favourite little tipple before going on stage many decades ago? Anyway booze isn’t needed at all, just a few to ‘lighten’ the mood for the special occasion and why not. The DP get together was a little like DLR saying the other day with that interview with Alex Van Halen. ‘This is a momentous world peace occasion”, ha ha ha ha. Something like that from Roth, always the comedian. Great to see all around from both sides of the world. Cheers.

I wouldn’t be so sure about that. I recall reading (or maybe heard it in a video interview) that he doesn’t drink while on the road, just drinks during the time between tours.

    There is alcohol and alcohol.

RB used Scotch(Wasnt that also a brand for audio cassettes?)with his cola.

Had the idea he ended mainly as a drinker of beer.

I tried Whiskey once, it felt like real poison.
I mainly drank wine, not many beers, rumcola, certain Brandy s

Somehow I remember alcohol was linked to truggering gout.

Well, at least RB did not smoke.

    Yo,

    @8…

Yes indeed, Scotch was a brand-of-tape, but AGFA &/or BASF chrome-dioxide items remain far superior, right-up-there with good CD quality imo.

A good Burbon is always better than Scotch imo…You can drink Burbon all-night-long & keep-your-head…(Scotch will have you sick-in-the-stomach in no-time lol )! That said, a lot of Fuku fall-out landed across the US-of-A, & a lot of nuke-plants draw their cooling water & return it via the same rivers & creeks that Burbon is made from…Best stick with the local wines !

A good wine is awesome, but it generally has to be a red variety for my tatstes, typically a good Merlot…

    Ciao !

As far as I know, Ian gave up cigarettes a long time ago and hasn’t drunk alcohol in years. Unlike Ritchie, who mostly drinks beer.

Reminds me of the old George Thorogood and the Destroyers version of the song, ‘one bourbon, one scotch and one beer’, on his debut album. The original song had the title of the scotch before the bourbon and then beer and was written by a blues musician Rudy Toombs and recorded by Amos Milburn in 1953. Rumour has it John Lee Hooker revised the song, hence the title change among other things. I wonder what Rory Gallagher had a penchant for with his favourite drink? Too much alcohol indeed. We used to buy the BASF, AGFA, Maxell and TDK tapes as well as trying the Scotch ones too. All back in the day of trying to preserve our ‘pristine’ albums that we had purchased. Oh and also recording albums for friends too, attempting to ‘convert’ them, he he he. Cheers.

Personally I had a long time of acquiring a taste for things like Baileys and Amarula, adding milk to it.

It brought down the expenses and it still did taste good.
    Well, imho it was.

Gregster, your fandom for the good ole BASF Chrom-Dioxide cassettes is much appreciated (I preferred them too), but they wore down the magnetic heads of the tape recorders over time! Too abrasive.

They shouldnt ve released the Orange coloured ones.

Its still a trauma for me I had so much trouble to listen to my FM recording of Rush at Pinkpop.

    Yo,

Yes well…Nothing lasts forever, but life is too short for poor sounds lol !

Even high-end CD-players will fail in time, generally with failed drive-rubber-bands for the insert tray, or more sooner a dirty optical-lense means no play-back when the CD inserted…There are solutions however…

    1. Even though it’s likely that a replacement drive-rubber is not available, & even more likely almost impossible to fit yourself if it was, the automotive-industry has a solution that works…You simply & very carefully spray a little-bit of CRC “Belt Grip” on the existing rubber, & your tray will start working again. The chemicals impregnate the rubber that revitalize it, whilst leaving a sticky residue to ensure no slippage when operated.

    2. The optical lense can be simply & very gently wiped-over with pure alcohol / spirit on a cotton-bud. ( We call it Methylated Spirit here in Oz ).

    Ciao !

Is that what that ole bootlegger, Wild Man MacG., distills out of sight of civilization in his forlorn cottage on your island?

    Gregster says:

    Yo,

    @16…

Ha-ha, I probably wouldn’t use that on the optical-lense, it may well dissolve it away !

It’s quite likely however that Wild Man MacG’s rum is not too dissimilar to the locally made & surprisingly popular Bundaburg Rum, & I would avoid these at all costs…You’ve been warned lol !

    Ciao !

Ha ha ha, not rum chaps. Vodka or Gin, the local Tasmanian one. I wouldn’t want to spoil their brew though. Many years ago I worked in wineries, Cinzano was one. There was pure Ethanol in a tank there, some people use to mix a little of into their favourite beverage. Lethal stuff, too much for me. I have never been much of an alcohol drinker, never liked beer or ale. That is why I am completely sane still, he he he. I have to be, to keep up with everyone here at THS. Cheers.
