Hard of hearing, anyway
Blackmore’s official channel has posted an interview done in December 1975 by one named ‘Ronnie Die’ in the description, and who sounds suspiciously like Ronnie James Dio.

Any chance of Rainbow’s debut getting a remix/box set treatment for its 50th anniversary?
April 20th, 2025 at 18:32Purple became known to the public because they made, and make, wonderful music 🤩
Have said it before, really don’t mind saying it again: RB played the guitar beautifully 😊
So cute he mentions Hank B Marvin ☺️
(And if I may add: Ronnie James Dio has a very nice speaking voice ☺️)

April 20th, 2025 at 20:28I suppose “you” is Big Jim Sullivan – he is probably in the room as well. 🙂
April 20th, 2025 at 21:44So this is the Big Jim Sullivan solo (@01:29) that impressed 19-year-old Ritchie so much:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4c9W2-uGvQQ
I only knew the song from where probably most of us know it, Boy George’s version:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-EPGhjxm0G0
I saw him and Culture Club in Cologne a couple of years ago – Edith and I were probably the only non-gay couple in the audience 😂, but it was a great gig with a rapturous reception. He’s an icon in the gay community. Wonderful voice.
The world is a small place: The singer in Big Jim Sullivan’s mid 70s hard rock outfit Tiger was Nicky Moore
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-rDkPkUdIJ4
(listen to the slide solo at the intro of the song and you can hear that Big Jim Sullivan was Ritchie’s teacher)
who later sang with John McCoy.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0OLEUxwBwbY
And of course with Uli Jon Roth before that:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jylErdqFwV0
April 20th, 2025 at 23:48And indeed Big Jim Sullivan played on the great Ritchie Blackmore album Green Bullfrog, along with many other great musicians named, Pinta, Sorry, Speedy, Bevy, Vicar, Sleepy, Jordan, Boss and Boots.
April 21st, 2025 at 12:19It was a long time ago, Simon, but I read that not only are the masters for the debut lost, but for every other pre-DP-reunion Rainbow album as well. Hence you never see a remix of classic Rainbow material which is lamentable as the low-fi first and the rushed-mix Rising could both really use it.
Mind you, the master tapes for Come Taste The Band and for Sabbath’s Born Again were also deemed lost for decades and then eventually showed up. I have a hunch that no one ever seriously searched for the Rainbow masters with dedication in whatever vaults they are locked away from mankind.
Of course, DC’s stellar resurrection job with his White Snake solo album has shown us what you can do these days even in absence of existing masters, but ole Coverdale is the only Purple guy that really curates and polishes his past work.
April 21st, 2025 at 14:16@ 7
That is a shame. but i have a feeliong there are.I cannot wait for that Born Again remix. I always hated that God Awful production and muddy that some fans seem to like it and identify with.
April 21st, 2025 at 19:09Meantime i cannot believe that this site never bothered to write something for Mr Blackmore 80th anniversary. We read all the unnecessary so called ineterviews and nothing about that?
Gillan once said he had the master tape of Born Again with the right sounds.
April 21st, 2025 at 20:06@ 9 – From what I have read or heard I don’t recall Gillan saying it was a ‘master’ tape. He said that he had listened to a mix and it sounded fine, or words to that effect from my memory of his comments on Born Again. Or was it the last mix that he heard before the final product? I could be wrong on that though. However if he did have a master copy why wouldn’t he contact Iommi about that? Maybe Gillan threw it out the window at that time, didn’t he do that with the album (vinyl). The other thing we have to take into consideration is Ian Gillan’s mind set at that time. How out of it was he and how good is his memory in regards to all that. Cheers.
April 21st, 2025 at 22:40@ 3 “DP are in studio in Nashville for the new album that will be released in later 2025”
Anybody here can add anything to AndreA’s comment?
I find it hard to believe, so soon after “= 1″… But of course, time is not been being on their side for tha last… many years, so…
If it’s true, a great great hurray!!
April 21st, 2025 at 23:44Iommi said a couple years ago the master recording of Born Again was found in the vault or recording company and he plans to have it remixed soon. Gillan has a copy of the monitor mixes on a cassette.
April 22nd, 2025 at 00:06Al, I’m not even sure whether Ritchie wanted his 80th birthday celebrated – by anyone. Candice did not use her many interviews in connection with Sea Glass to mention that a larger celebration was imminent. Instead, she disclosed Ritchie’s bypasses – I think he wanted both: that his state of health is communicated to the fans (she wouldn’t have done it had he not okayed it) and that no fuss is made because of his anniversary. That is to be respected, a lot of people his age don’t want to be bothered with anniversary birthdays. I sure don’t remember him celebrating his 50th, 60th or 70th birthdays in a conspicuous manner.
There is also relatively little to write that is current: no rerelease of classic Rainbow material!, the last BN album a while back and a new one not yet imminent plus he’s hardly featured on Candice’s new solo album. As for Ritchie’s historic achievements: Don’t we discuss these here everyday in one way or another?
April 22nd, 2025 at 04:11John @11: Under the prevailing rules of biology and considering the age of some DP members, there is no more “so soon”, only “just in time”. The majority of current DP members are now older than the next pope will be.
April 22nd, 2025 at 11:22Deep Purple for pope. White smoke on the water:)

April 22nd, 2025 at 21:05Ghost?! Oh my god!
I don’t envy you at all. 🆘
The ticket is a birthday present, but I always wanted to see them, I like their slightly aseptic (hell, they’re Swedes, Swedish music is never grimey or sweaty, think of ABBA, Yngwie, Roxette and Europe) brand of pop rock with the singalong chorus parts and the hilarious B movie horror visuals. It’s like KISS, albeit with a more sophisticated music.
And some of the songs, because they’re in true pop tradition quite a bit more harmonically intricate in chord sequences than your usual rock fare, remind me pleasantly of what Blue Öyster Cult did.
April 23rd, 2025 at 12:23So..
April 23rd, 2025 at 22:15Happy Birthday Mr.Uwe 🍷
Ciaoooo
Ha, it was entertaining, and there was even one song where the nameless girl ghoul (among ghost fans the term is apparently ‘ghoulette’) on keyboards
https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcT7bs5X7gzNR3nl7ejmbffPG3-DtKeTmNdvwg&s
switched on a Hammond sound and dueled for a couple of bars with one of the nameless boy ghoul guitarists who channeled his inner Ritchie with his white Strat and played a bit like him too. I believe they teach Blackmore at all Scandinavian elementary schools and Yngwie just repeated a few classes too often.
All very satanic and hence enjoyable.
April 23rd, 2025 at 22:30Ghost are not my cup of tea and we all hope Uwe doesn’t get lost in all that darkness and the masses of the ‘evil’ crowd. Uwe, don’t wear your suit to that gig, make sure you dress for the occasion, whatever you do! Their lead vocalist slash frontman Tobias did say some very true comments in regards to Black Sabbath’s influence and a somewhat often neglected part of their music. The symphonic, acoustic and ballad music that they did so well. Good comments indeed. Cheers.

April 24th, 2025 at 08:20here is the flaw of today’s bands especially of a celebrated one like this: they always remind others of the PAST. I find that 90% of today’s bands have nothing original. They can offer just a show with choreography but I only like stages with amplifiers..
Ciao
Grazie, AndreA, but it was already in Nov! I was born – cue in Axl Rose – in the cold November rain!
No worries, Herr MacGregor, the many teenage and young adult girls who frequent Ghost gigs ignored me totally, no matter what I would have worn or not worn. For a bunch of satanists they sure pull a lot of chicks which goes to show once again: wimmin are in league with the devil.
April 24th, 2025 at 11:50Tobias Forge (to all intents and purposes HE IS Ghost, they are not really a band) is obviously someone who has heard a lot of rock and pop music in analytical fashion over the decades – you can tell by Ghost’s music which is carefully crafted, but also a bit drawing board-constructed. Swedish engineering.
Surprisingly, behind all the Grand Guignol cosplay, he’s not really a compelling frontman (he sings well though, but his voice is more pop than rock and more Pet Shop Boys than Led Zeppelin or Sabbath), yesterday he came across as shy to the point of awkward (maybe that is why the image factor is so important with Ghost, it gives him something to hide behind), he’s not a great communicator, his stage raps are forced, his jokes didn’t ignite, He also has none of the world-weary and road-worn coolness of, say, Alice Cooper nor the disconcerting and unsettling aura of a Marilyn Manson. It’s all very tame and kiddies-appropriate actually, think the dark-ride-attraction of ‘Phantom Manor’ in Disneyland Paris. 🧟♀️🧟♂️🧟
Ghost are satanist in the same way Blackmore’s Night are Renaissance, i.e. scarcely. Live their music is a lot more heavy metal than on their rather pop’ish albums, that took away some of the pop almanac nuances that are so typical of their music. Yesterday sounded in places as if Iron Maiden was covering Ghost material. 😂
April 24th, 2025 at 13:43@ 24 – So certain females out there are attracted to the dark side, good to see. Yes that ‘goth’ look and attitude does appeal to some of those ‘innocent’ ladies, good to hear they didn’t give you hard time. They may have thought you were there looking for your children perhaps, ha ha ha. ‘Who is this old geezer’ could have been a thought on some of their minds. Were there many ‘older’ folk in attendance Uwe? I certainly hope Valhalla hasn’t been watered down that much. It all sounds a little tame doesn’t it. Cheers.

Uwe, once again you’re right & if anyone doubts you, it has been proven mathematically:

April 25th, 2025 at 06:49Guys, I’m happy we’ve mutually arrived at a scientific conclusion here. This site is after all devoted to TRUTH.

In a way I was at the Ghost gig with one of my children, Edith’s 1989-born daughter (from her first marriage) and her hubbie (a Metallica and Bayern München fan, who, under duress, forced me to acquiesce into joining him to an upcoming Slipknot gig after he has already dragged me to Tool recently) had gifted the ticket to me and were there too.
Slipknot live … that is bound to be interesting, also from an anthropological viewpoint. Somehow, I thought I’d reach my grave without that experience, but life always has surprises in store for us. 🤣
Back to Ghost, no, the audience wasn’t quite as geriatric as at a DP gig, but I was neither the oldest nor the only senior citizen. And yes, there were quite a few obvious parents in their late 30s/early 40s with their early teen daughters all gothed up there too.

It’s a bit like a KISS gig spectacle, all good fun, I have a benevolent attitude towards it – as any grandpa should.
