Can remember in the mid 90’s , David promised he would retire from the music scene . No more Whitesnake or solo songs! What’s going on, most bands do that & come back like Kiss in 2003. I believe he should have been offered big money to rejoin Deep Purple in 1990 , he may have decided to leave Whitesnake . Also more live cd’s & dvd’s from the Ian Paice & Cozy Powell era need to be released.

Nice idea George F., but his voice in 1990 was shot.

Like many in all walks of life, retirement is not an option especially with the world economy and plenty of bills to pay.

Robert Plant lost his voice back in ’80 or so. He is simply singing in his limited range now. And he obviously still has an audience to make a living from. Save for his masterpiece with Alison Krauss, and the tour to support it, I don’t care for his voice for a long while now. And not really using Zep as a barometer. It’s all individual preference no doubt…

    Peace,

    Ted

And Coverdales voices is still loooong away from the good old days. Just like Whitesnake is I’m sad to say.
Glenn is still the best “purple” singer today.

    Pete says:

Come on George, Do you really want to see Coverdale destroy Deep Purple again?

    AndreA says:

Gillan and Coverdale have lost their vocal range but nowdays they still have a good style to sing on live peformance..

Hughes has the best voice but he has lost style
( I am stopped on his singing STYLE from THE7TH STAR and FACE THE TRUTH, really good voice on ).

Plant has been never a singer..

    Bill The Wizard Pierce says:

Sorry boys & Girls, Coverdale never destroyed Deep Purple! You all forget that at the same time, they hired Glenn, all that funk and stuff that Blackmore hated was Glenn, not David. No one know now what would’ve happened and how he would or could have written songs, I can only say that I like Coverdale and his voice a lot better than Glenn’s then and now. Later

Looking forward to Whitesnake. Hope they expand their US Tour beyond the 2 dates shown and make it near here. BUT!!!!! Am NOT happy with their choice to OPEN for Judas Priest AGAIN. BIG MISTAKE!! Saw them do in Nashville. Priest blew them away due to the Snakes inferior Sound mixing and Priest having a Full Stage set and obvious longer gig. Whitesnake should be Headlining. If they want to team up with another band, do so with a less heavy, less know band. Someone on the way up. Ozzy has Slash on his ticket here in Nashville down the road. Great idea. Slash is well known and respected but isn’t Larger than the OZ.

I only hope if they come to a place near me, they drop the Priest thing. They can tour on their Own Merit, here in the States. They had plenty of Hits. The folks know of them, more-so than Judas Priest. Though I do love JP, I don’t wish to see Whitesnake open for them. Didn’t work too well.

    Cheers

    Oh my Goooooooooooooood!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are you sure you are not suffering from menopause?

    stefan says:

Hear hear Tracy….!! I too love JP but this is a huge mismatch, when did JP outsell WS in the states in record sales ???? And besides….Halford´s voice is in an even worse condition than DC´s, who hopefully has his vocal problems sorted out now !!!! And finally…to Andrea: have to agree with Purplepriest on this one…..are you tonedeaf or just daft…???? ROCK ON !!!

    Ted The Mechanic says:

While on the subject of singers, the GREAT Rik Emmett, of long ago Triumph fame, reports on his pre-Triumph band Act III, “We used to close the night with Deep Purple’s “Child In Time”.”

    Ya gotsta love it….!

    Peace,

    Ted

    Bill The Wizard Pierce says:

Tracy, totally agree about the Priest gigs? What r they thinking? who wants to see that again. They should get a good band and definitely headline. They’ve got plenty of material to play. Another missed shot!

    purplepriest1965 says:

Another good band, consisting of :

    Ritchie Blackmore
    Steve Harris
    Jon Lord
    Ian Paice
    Roy Khan

    Sami says:

It seems like Cov. & backing band are doing it wrong again : either try to convince the Priest’s metal-audience that they are a real deal/not some 80’s poof band, or tour with some awful hair-/mediocre bands as they did before…WTF…bad management, or something…there must be some good big name bands to hook up with this time, or headline as people stated here earlier.

    purplepriest1965 says:

Maybe REO Speedwagon is available as a support?

It sure did trigger a lot of exitement between Rainbow and REO way back in the 70 s. : )

    Rainbow supported in those times.
That was then already a insult of sorts, ofcourse.

I once read that Cozy and Ritchie got into a fight with ” the so called redneck peasants from the MidWest” .

    Crimson Ghost says:

@11 – Ha ha ha, that is all I can say at the mere thought of Rick Emmett singing CIT! I sure hope he wasn’t doing the singing.

WS and Priest = shotty promoting to say the least, it’s like pleading for a brawl or something. Talk about rotten apples and oranges. Both great bands with nothing whatsoever in common.

  17. 17
    Crimson Ghost says:

Oops, spelled the canook’s wrong, it’s Rik. But I’m surprised on the same coin that he didn’t mention being kicked off the Perfect Strangers tour for calling Ritchie on-air names at a radio station. True story! And yes he is fantastic, but CIT? Come on….

    purplepriest1965 says:

    Does April Wine still exist?

I loved both bands, A W and Triumph at the time.
Never got to see them, unfortunately.

People in the USA often complain about certain acts not visiting their country but hey……

You dont want to know which bands almost NEVER game here or decided to leave it alone after 1 or 2 gigs.

    Sometimes its not their fault.
I wanted to see Uncle Ted, I downloaded several great FM Boots last week : ),but missed out on him a short while ago.
At the Arrow Classic Rock I missed out on many, like Journey, Kansas, Heart, etc because I tried to economise : (

Then again, I might have bought a ticket if …..

they had skipped that festival and had chosen a proper club or arena(Not a sportsstadium, thats also frustrating and insulting).

    PurpleSnake_ says:

Well, I saw DP last year here in Belfast, and Ian Gillen’s voice was definately shakey to say the least. 🙁

Sadly missed the Whitesnake n Def Leppard gig here tho, which to this day I’m so gutted about. Wonder why DC n the guys arent returning to Belfast, we got a great venue. Iron Maiden are here this year, as well as a killer show with Def Leppard, Thin Lizzy and Alice Cooper. Come on David… bring the Snake to Belfast!!! 🙂

    Alex says:

According Whitesnake more or less it is a pop-rock band. See what are the main WS hits (((….. It is not the same like JP for exaple who keeps their style till now.
