Ian Paice solo shows

Drumming up a chorus

The clinic and the concert was part of the International Percussion Festival.

It consisted of a short introduction, a few minutes of drumming, questions and answers, more drumming, and another Q&As session.

Concerning the questions: when asked, Ian Paice said that the new Deep Purple studio album would be issued next spring.

John Bonham with Deep Purple on stage in New York 1976 was an interesting story told by Ian Paice: Bonham, who, dressed in a smart three-piece suit, had just left an exclusive restaurant with Robert Plant, came to the concert hall (backstage) during DP's show. And even after a few glasses of wine, he really wanted to play the encore with Purple, so they gave him a tambourine, “because this was the only instrument we could find for him” as Ian said. The next day the press reviews of the show were a little bit surprising, according to Ian: “during the encores, an old man dressed in a suit holding a tambourine, came on stage.” Ian`s conclusion: “Nobody recognized him”.

And then the time for show (done without any rehearsal) - Ian Paice and Polish rock musicians (Festival Band): Wojciech Konikiewicz - keyboard, Pawel Maciwoda - bass and Matt “the Irish guy” - guitar and vocals.

Set list: Hush / When A Blind Man Cries / Strange Kind Of Woman / Demon's Eye / Smoke On The Water, plus spontaneous encore Black Night. “You have to sing this song!” said The Drummer as there were no singers onstage at the moment. During the song, the guitar part was taken by the man from the audience joining the band.

Nice evening with the best rock drummer.
