UK reviews 2002 (rescheduled)

Uncanny Don

Excellent and emotional show - Don Airey exceeded initial expectations - he sounded uncannily like Jon at times (using Jon's rig?). Steve superb, Ian in excellent voice, little Ian and Rog still sound superb together.

But we need more new stuff to stop the band appearing as a 'golden oldies and greatest hits' cabaret - not enough from Steve's era, although he's really put his mark on all the old favourites

Set list:

Fireball
Woman From Tokyo
Mary Long (first time played in Scotland?)
Ted The Mechanic
Lazy (excellent intro from Don, nice blues ending from Steve)
Well Dressed Guitar
When A Blind Man Cries
Space Truckin'
Don Airey solo into to Perfect Strangers (with Lord)
Speed King (Lord) featuring High School Bop, Now or Never + ??? (anyone remember?)
Love Hurts (with Nazareth's Dan McCafferty on lead vocals)
Steve's solo (Voodoo Chile and Stairway To Heaven solo)
Smoke (Lord & Airey)

Encores:
Hush (Lord)
Black Night (Airey)
Highway Star (Lord & Airey - amazing intro from Steve)

Total time 1:45

Robert B. Brown
