Testimonials - page 11

Conrad Passas, Sydney, Australia:
Made In Japan - Highway Star. Never in my life have I ever heard a lead into a solo proper such as Jon's. It screams of glory. It says 'move over boys, I'm here and I'm ready to rock.' It's an incredibly exhiliarating moment in hard rock, and it sets the tone for the whole record. I've been listening to it for 25 years and I never tire of it. Jon is the master, pushing his instrument to the limit. All the beautiful music, ugly noises, screaching synthesisers, honky tonk. I call it 'visceral' B3 - it was all from the gut. I'm sad, but I own so many memories.

Audrey O'Neill, Dublin, Ireland:
I want to take this opportunity to thank Jon for all the wonderful memories. It is a sad time for the band I am sure and I'd say it was a very difficult and emotional decision that had to be made. We all choose our own paths in life and luckily we have music to turn to in times of happiness and sadness. Happiness is listening to some of the greatest musicians of all time, sadness is when their time together comes to an end. Jaysus, feel like cryin' meself here. Words are hard to say at the moment. See ya in Dublin for a pint of the black stuff one day I hope.

Steffen Liede, Germany:
I'm as old as Deep Purple In Rock. I've loved this music since I was nine years old. I don't know why Jon is saying good - maybe Deep Purple tour too much. Jon is 60 years old and he has toured for more then 40 years, unbelieveable.

Dae-Won Lee, Seoul, South Korea:
In east Asian traditions, when a great man died or disappeared, they usually knew it in the evening sky by observing the fall of a great star. When Jon decided to leave Deep Purple, a big star should have fallen from the sky. I began to like Jon after listening to the blistering Hammond solo in Fireball 15 years ago. So when I heard of Jon's retirement, I thought the Fireball had turned to ashes at last. But after listening Jon's Pictured Within again, I realised that his retirement will be a really beautiful one. Jon appeared very dignified in Pictured Within and the recreated Concerto. His music is full-bodied like a precious wine. Even though there might be personal reasons of his departure, I firmly believe that he will make great music outside Purple as well. In the respect of band, as Rasmus already mentioned in his editorial, they are still Deep Purple and with great enthusiasm they will develop untill breaking point. Jon, your time with the band has always been a great part of my life. I will miss that time. I believe that you are so young and it is wise to carry on your musical dream.

Gary Henderson, UK:
Jon is my reason for playing not just piano, but more specifically keyboards - rip-roaring Hammond riffs. His music and style of playing has shown me more than words could describe. I am praying he will play the UK tour - all my family are going to the Glasgow gig. We love you, Lordy.

Andrea Paganelli, Bologna, Italy:

I've seen the man so many times, I cannot describe the feelings I had when I got the news that mister Jon lord is leaving Deep Purple. On the other hand, I got a feeling of great joy when I remembered all the great times and memories he has given me and many other Deep Purple fans all over the world. I would like to say to mister Jon Lord: Enjoy the rest of your life with your family in very, very, very good health and spirit - you've earned it.
