The Royal Albert Hall Concerts 1999 - DPAS Convention and meeting place

There is supposed to be a DPAS convention on the Sunday afternoon before the Royal Albert Hall concert. That is all the info we have so far but we'll post news about the convention as soon as we have it.

These are the details we have so far:

  • 26th September, afternoon [noon to 6]
  • Sherfield Hall, Imperial College, South Kensington campus, , , map courtesy of the DPAS
  • Advance booking only!
  • DPAS members only + one guest each
  • Non-smoking...adults only [all stipulated by Imperial College]
  • Similar to last Convention [95 - we have a review] - rare videos, rare audios to watch and listen to....DTB back-issues, records, CD's, posters and memorabilia.
  • Rock Of Ages [instead of Lost Horizons]
  • Quiz
  • Auction
  • Internet
  • Previews of "Days May Come & Days May Go" and "Budokan 75"
  • Bar...pizza restaurant
  • First come, first served...reserved/paid for tickets can be picked up on the door
  • Price £6.50 max two tickets £13.00

Alternative plans
The convention will be on Sunday. People who are not members of the DPAS or members who want to meet non-members both on the Saturday and the Sunday will meet at The Goat Tavern:

From: Rosemary & Chris Hayward
Newsgroups: alt.music.deep-purple
Date: 14 August 1999 18:32
Subject: Concerto Meeting.

After Driving around Kensington for a while, it became fairly obvious that any meeting would have to be near a Tube Station as there are no Pubs in the vicinity of the RAH. The best one is near High Street Kensington Underground Station.

DIRECTIONS.
Go to High Street Kensington Underground Station on the Circle and District Line, out to the Main Road ( there is only one exit) and turn right, walk for Three Hundred Yards and The Goat Tavern is on your right opposite the Royal Garden Hotel.

The Pub is open from Midday Sunday and serves food for the rest of the day. It is a Simmons House so there should be some decent ales available for tasting (medicinal purposes only of course):-) From here it is about a half Mile walk to the RAH.

If anyone needs any further directions then please let me know. So if you are coming from the UK, Europe or the USA, I hope to see you there.

Chris

The Goat Tavern is on Kensington High Street, opposite the Royal Garden Hotel, which is at the Kensington Palace Green end of High Street.

The pub is open from 11:00AM on both Saturday and Sunday with food being served from opening time until well after we leave for RAH. Tel. no.: 0171-9371213. Nearest tube station is High Street Kensington

John Tate

I know that some people will be at The Goat Tavern already on Friday so have a look there on Friday too if you don't know what to do in the evening.

Thanks to Nigel Young, Chris Hayward, Nick Robinson, Benny Holmström and John Tate.
