There was an interview today in my daily with Milky - the band from Lund, Sweden, that supported Rainbow in Europe. I thought I'd relay their impressions to you all:
First, Milky was very grateful to Ritchie for having chosen them as a support act. It gave them the chance to put the "rock'n'roll myth" to the test. They describe their impression of Rainbow as decidedly "Spinal Tapish": Rainbow quarrelled during soundchecks; while Ritchie travelled by air, the rest of the band went with the tour bus; Ritchie had his own loge and only spoke to others through his personal assistant.
However, Ritchie wasn't above buying Milky a couple of beers at some of the gigs. On one of these occasions Ritchie confessed to having used in his youth the same kind of Vox AC 30 amps that Milky guitarist Sotiris Greveniotis now favours. According to Milky, Ritchie always watched their show from behind the scene. They even assert that if Ritchie was late he told his personal assistant to tell Milky to wait with their show so he would not miss it.
They also noted that Rainbow fans weren't to keen on Milky's special brand of hard rock - in Hamburg the crowd even threw beer at them for being too wimpy. (As if '95 Rainbow weren't wimpy!)
Overall, Milky enjoyed the Rainbow tour tremendously and says it has made them mature a lot musically. (Beginning to sound a bit "Spinal Tapish" themselves maybe - only kidding, they seem to be nice guys)
