Deep Purple WWW Pages FAQ

What is Deep Purple's current lineup?

Ian Gillan
Roger Glover
Jon Lord
Steve Morse
Ian Paice

Erm, what happened to Ritchie?

He threw a hissy fit shortly before leaving for the Japanese leg of the '93 tour and quit.

Joe Satriani stood in superbly and helped revitalise the mood in the band.

He couldn't record with the band (though some say you can hear the DP influence in his new album :-) so the search was on for a guitarist of equal stature.

In the event, Steve Morse was signed up, is regarded as a permanent feature and the rest is history. Well, it will have been history in a few years, if you see what I mean.

When will the album be released?

Around now (24 Jan). It may have been delayed until 5 Feb.

What is it called?

"Purpendicular".

Is it any good?

It's different.

What can we expect on the tour?

A lot of fun.

Musically, expect a lot of stuff not usually performed live with Ritchie and for it to draw heavily from Fireball for a change.

Will there be a US tour, and when?

Yes. Venues to be decided based on response to the European dates and the sales of the album in the US. It will be mid-year.

So what about Rainbow?

Ritchie put a band of relative newbies together, recorded an album which was released in Europe to reviews that were mostly tepid. They are on tour where Ritchie is proving to give a 50/50 chance of a good/excellent show.

The lineup?

Ritchie Blackmore
Doogie White (vcl)
Chuck Burghi (drm)
Greg Smith (bas)
Paul Morris (kbd)
Candice Night (bvc)

US release of the album?

Just rumours.

US tour?

On this form, don't hold your breath.

DP and the WWW

Who is to blame for the WWW pages?

I started the WWW site and bullied Trond Strøm into helping me. From there, it all took on a life of its own and there's a small team now working on the pages whenever we get the time.

What is the basis of the Deep Purple WWW pages?

The pages are about Deep Purple and any spinoffs not covered by WWW pages elsewhere. Any sites for related bands have our full support. Hopefully we can inspire each other to greater heights.

Do you have any relationship to the band?

Only in so far as Roger Glover, Jon Lord, Steve Morse and Bruce Payne (not necessarily in that order) keep us up to date and correct any historical inaccuracies.

Do you have any relationship to the UK DPAS?

No.

What can I do to help?

We are always looking out for personal reminiscences, gig dates, reviews, bootleg information and contacts with anyone who has had or has contact with any Deep Purple related people.

Where can I ask questions?

There is a USENET newsgroup called alt.music.deep-purple (aka: amd-p) that may be available to you using the news reading component of your WWW browser.

I also run a gateway that takes a bundle of postings to amd-p and mails them to you as a "digest". To subscribe, send mail to "majordomo@fsl.com" with "subscribe dp-digest" in the message body. Be warned, this service is subject to withdrawl without notice

If you wish to post to amd-p and are unable to using your WWW browser, then you can send mail do "dp-post@fsl.com". Please allow up to a day for any posting to get back to you.

Is there any kind of chat room?

On the main IRC network (Efnet), I try to keep a channel open, #DeepPurple. This is a drop-in effort so don't be surprised to find me there but apparently asleep. However, we've also had a good turnout of some of the leading lights of amd-p, and saved some souls who thought the Deep Purple light had gone out in the world.

For AOL users there is a Deep Purple Chat Room you can attend. Every Tuesday night it starts at 10PM eastern, 7PM pacific and lasts a couple of hours. Go to People Connection (chat rooms)/ click List Rooms/ click Private Rooms/ type Deep Purple and you're there.

Would you accept sponsorship/advertising?

Oh yes.

Pils will do nicely.
