Subject: Review: DP - Hannover, 12.06.

So I finally managed it to see DP on this tour (taking excersises in March). The Music Hall in Hannover was sold out. The support act was the local band Rough Silk, there's not much to say about them, but the audience liked them.

The best thing about this concert was the good mood they were in and the renewed Jon Lord, well the two best things were the good mood and Jon Lord and Steve Morse ... among the best things about this concert were the good mood, Jon Lord and Steve Morse, the songs they played....

The setlist was a little bit extended compared to the Esbjerg gig as they played:

  • Fireball
  • Maybe I'm A Leo
  • Vavoom: Ted The Mechanic
  • Pictures Of Home
  • Black Night
  • Cascades
  • Sometimes I Feel Like Screaming
  • Woman From Tokyo
  • Rosa's Cantina (maybe they played it later)
  • Bloodsucker
  • Purpendicular Waltz
  • Smoke On The Water (organ solo)
  • When A Blind Man Cries
  • Speed King
  • Perfect Strangers
  • Hey Cisco
  • Highway Star

The gig took a little more than 2 hours! They seemed to have a lot of fun on stage - wonderful to see how much they cared about the performences of the others. Jon Lord was featured much more than before, his solos were extended and he stepped beside his keyboards to take the applause from the audience several times. The 'battles' with Steve Morse were mostly played head to head and with a different attitude than that with TMIB. It also seemed as if they were more 'jammed'.

IG was in a good mood ('suuuperb' is the new phrase) but his singing was not that good. Also his talking was much too fast for most people, it was nearly impossible to understand a word. RG and IP habe been enthusiastic as I have never seen them, RG often giving applause to the audience. SM fitted perfect into the band. It's good that he is so very different (although I love to hear TMIB play).

The highlights of the show (to name just a few):

  • Maybe I'm A Leo - with a very strong organ
  • Sometimes I Feel - my fave of _|_
  • Woman From Tokyo - a long version with good instrumentals
  • When A Blind Man Cries - absolutely stunning

All in all it was my fifth DP-Concert since 1987 and it was simply the best one!

Look forward for my review of Braunschweig, 23.09.96 or simply go out and see them,
