Deep Purple Show 11/26/96

I just got back from a 4 hour drive from seeing a band I've wanted to see for 25 years. Yes it was worth it & at a perfect size venue, the 9:30 Club in our nations Capitol.

They opened up with Hush but kept to a familiar set as with the other set lists I've seen. The enjoyable things besides the obvious to this show where that not once was rhere any crowd surfing or unruly behavior as in most shows I attend.

The other was how relaxed the band was playing & really seemed to enjoy themselves in the almost sold-out show.

Steve Morse played like the natural that he is & added great textures previously never before displayed in the band. The solo spots where kept interesting, brief & not over indulgaint. Therefore lots more songs & no one going to the bar for a drink. There where lots of smiles throughout the evening, from the crowd & the band.

After the show & a brief wait I & a few others where fortunate to get a few autographs on our well worn albums & a handshake as each member would come out briefly for a meet & greet. This topped an already perfect evening!

Thanks,
Steve Athey
