Pittsburgh Deep Purple Concert

Like a fine wine, this Band just gets better with age. This is the statement I will use to describes Deep Purple. Getting better and better and better.

On December 6, 1996, I had the greatest concert experience of my life. Being a Deep Purple fan since 1972, the events of this night was something that I thought I would only dream about. Tickets in the third row, I just didn't see the concert, but I felt part of the concert. The crowd was great and the Band was fed off of their enthusiasm.

Who said Ian Gillan can't sing, this man has a voice that someday will end up in the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame. His voice is in great shape and he is a great showman.

Two songs were cut from the set list, they were the Aviator, and Sometime I Feel like Screaming. It is nice to here some new songs, the 1984 and 1987 tours were almost identical.

Steve Morse is great, he has put new life into the Band. The Band is now together working for a common goal and having fun doing it. Roger Glover smiled and had fun like he was in his 20's. Jon Lord and Steve exchanged solo's and enjoyed it very much. We also were treated to a very quick riff of Burn during their exchanges. And Ian Paice, the greatest drummer in the World.

I also decided to get very darning and tape the show, I got caught during the encores and was ask to surrender my tape. Luckily I switched tapes before the encores, so I do have a partial concert. An everlasting musical memory.

After the show, I had the opportunity to meet Steve Morse, Ian Paice, and Ian Gillan. All three autograph my concert program. I also had my picture take with Ian Gillian by Robyn. Thanks a lot Robyn! All three Band members were great, talking with about eight of us and being very personal about it.

This was a great night! A night I'll never forget.
