Toronto Review

Deep Purple blasted into Toronto last night at the Warehouse. The show went off with nary a hitch (small amp problems aside). The band was in great spirits with lots of banter amongst themselves.

The venue, although abit pithy sound and sitewise, seemed to suite the showcase and the sold-out crowd perfectly. Best surprise of the evening was the opening song, HUSH. As soon as the familiar screeching began the entire audience recognized and reacted to the tune. The 2 hour plus set was well paced and virtually identical to the ones performed on the other legs of the tour. The audience was most appreciative, regardless of what the local paper said.

I was hoping for a few different songs (I'd love to hear them play BLOODSUCKER), however we left the show more than satisfied.

Deep Purple had not played Toronto since 1985 and previous to that it was sometime in the early seventies (the Fireball Tour). Their return was long overdue and the local loyal following in the city seemed to impress the band.

Hope to see them again, in less than 11 years!
