Ian's voice was in great shape -- amazing performance. The pain in the *** metal bands that were doing a sound check during the Purple show were annoying (Purple headlined a concert at the Palace of Auburn Hills, featuring the likes of 'Corrosion of Conformity' and 'Danzig'). During 'My Woman from Tokyo', you could hear one of the idiot metalheads pouding a snare drum (as if they could really get a good sound check while Purple was playing at full tilt in the same arena).

After the show, I got to meet both Ian's. Both were gracious. Big Ian asked if I had seen his web page. I said yes -- and asked if he planned to add his email address?
"I haven't got the time", he said -- adding he was looking forward to some rest after the busy tour schedule he's been on. Paicey was in fine form for the show -- even though he says he thought it wasn't his best night. I told him my collection of Purple imports and promo CD's totals 60+, and he thanked me for helping to finance his new home!
He left the room, promising to return, but most of the 8 to 12 of us hanging around gave up waiting (including a nice fellow and his wife transplanted from Britain. He was a policeman in the town where Ian had his Inn, I believe.)
Excellent performance -- a REAL thrill to meet the greatest Rock vocalist and drummer of all time!

Ed Coury
