Toronto - Glasgow, maybe next time

What can I say - four days from a dream come true and it all comes crashing down. After being a devoted fan for 31 years I was finally getting the opportunity to see the greatest rock band in the world, back in my home town of Glasgow. You see, I live just outside of Toronto, Canada and my son and I were set to make the trip of a lifetime to meet up with my brother who still lives in Scotland. This would have been the first time all three of us would have seen Purple together (a truely magical moment) - or so we thought.

I can understand that people do get sick and I hope whoever it is (I suspect Mr Gillan is the unfortunate party) gets well soon. We still plan on making our trip as the tickets are payed for. The adventure was to revolve around the gig on the 28th, but at least I can still visit with my family, but there is no doubt that there will be a huge void that can't be filled. What really makes it hard to swallow is that my brother had been able to secure three back stage passes, I would finally have had the opportunity to meet my idols.

The three of us will have to look forward to another time and place where we might be allowed to live out our dream. I hope the band makes a stop in Toronto during their upcoming North American tour in the summer.

A gutted Jim Irons
