Having lived with the thing for over a month now, I feel a bit more
qualified to try and review it. I think it's a good album, no way up to the
classic standard of Rising, not even Down to Earth, but a respectable
Rainbow album nevertheless. Certainly much better than SBTE. A couple of
tracks on there I think are great, especially Ariel, Black Masquerade and
Hall..., while Hunting Humans has grown on me very much. I like Ritchie's
playing, he has a fine tone, and plays A LOT, which for us Blackmore-hungry
fans is always a boon-I wish he'd do a fully instrumental LP one day. The
rest of the band I think are pretty faceless, although Dougie White has a
good voice, he does sound like JLT, though. Havin said that, Blackmore is
bitterly mistaken if he thinkg SIUA is commercial or even popular
music-couldn't be more out of touch. I spoke with a high ranking guy at BMG
Greece who was totally disappointed with it, saying that it's so out of the
current climate that they won't be bothered to push it at all. Now I know
Greece is a very small market, but this opinion can only be the same in
other places-one has to have in mind that DP and Rainbow have always been
huge over here. The same guy said that "we'd be sitiing on a hit if it was
1984".
Soapbox mode off.
