Rainbow Promo Video

In a way this is a rather unique item. He hasn't been this "normal" since the Perfect Strangers video. Wearing that hat (is it called Cromwellian hat or what?) and with a 12-string acoustic in his hands.

He says among other things:

Music - you need new enthusiasm. That's why I like to play with different players every couple of years. Otherwise you could stale.

I was playing a lot of football, soccer, and I was in a band called Deep Purple and they had given up playing soccer so i thought I must get out of this situation, get some new soccerplayers, younger people that could play and that's when I reformed Rainbow.

Then Dougie appears singing "I belong to Glasgow" Then he tells of how RB called him up one night and DW didn't believe it was RB. So DW asked the voice on the phone: What's unique about the guitarsolo in Hold On from Stormbringer?"

RB (on the video): I played the entire thing with my thumb.

DW: So we started talking.

Then talks about how Ritchie and Dougie writes together. RB throwing riffs Dougies way and tells him to come up with something. Then on the video RB starts playing Lili Marlene. Then talks of Ariel. Brief liveplaying and singing before the recorded song fades in.

Then bits about the band. Dougie tells about the members. The tour is discussed briefly and dougie sings the following immortal line accompanied by RB on guitar: (tempo 3/4)

I'd love to go on wandering
down to the record store
to by the Stranger in us all
by Riitchie Blackmooore

Ritchie says his favourite track is Hall of The Mountain King. It's what Rock is all about: simplicity, yet exciting.

As usual it's very hard to tell whether he means what he says or not. The whole thing is actually very well shot. It's in black and white and a couple of really silly clips from very old c-movies are mixed in. I get a good impression of DW. He seems to be a genuinely nice guy. Hopefully RB continues to behave this way. Will anyone bet on it? Strange to see him on this tape knowing he only communicated via written notes with that non-soccerplaying bunch of uninspiring musicians (ironic on my part of course).
