I'm not a RB fan or a hardcore Rainbow fan, but this is my very short review of the new Rainbow album.
To "borrow" from Goldilocks and The Three Bears - Bobby's review was too hot, Trond's review was too cold, and Stathis was just right. It instantly sounds like 1980-era Rainbow. Dougie White sometimes reminded me of JLT, other songs were more like GB. The rthyhm section isn't tasteless, just faceless. And the keys are almost non-existance. This album is really the RB and DW show, IMO of course. I think Stathis nailed the album when he said the album is completely out of touch with what is going on in rock music today, but IT IS a listenable Rainbow album, just 15 years too late. I think there are 5 very good Rainbow tunes on the album: Wolf to the Moon, Ariel, Black Masquerade, Hall of the Mountain King and Still I'm Sad. There are also some pretty lousy songs, but I'm not gonna slag them in this newsgroup-check out Stathis' review again. RB does experiment a little on the album. Hunting Humans is very different-no guitar, really! Stand and Fight had Gillan-ish Harmonica. And another song, I think, had an acoustic solo, leading into a typical RB solo.
Jeez, this wasn't so short after all - sorry.
