Review of Rainbow, Ahoy, Rotterdam, Oct 17, 1995

Well, what can I say... Awesome, still in a daze after getting a chance to see Rainbow, (my first ever!). Was supposed to hook up with Bobby (Baby Blackmore) Jervais before the show, but somehow did'nt work out. My wife Ann and I were some 50 feet from the stage (center). Milky way hit the stage at 8.15 and did 4/5 songs. Nothing impressive. The singer tried to sound like Antony Keidis (Red Hot C. P). Rainbow started at around 9 with the familiar "...We must be over the Rainbow". Set list was pretty much the same as other concerts. Doogie has a great voice, much like Dio, although his rant about techno pop was corny at best. Good stage presence. God, where did they pick the keyboardist from?? My prediction folks, he'll be without a job soon. Bassist was pretty good, had a good voice. Chuck Burgi seemed to be wearing a wig (continuing the Rainbow tradition I guess). TMIB was in a good mood, judging by the wasy he was handing out drinks, instead of pouring it around.

Highlights: Mistreated (2nd encore) Burn (1st encore) Temple of the king

Havent got the new CD yet, so couldn't recognize the new songs. Doogie did some impromptu numbers including:

Rainbow eyes Love Hurts (Nazareth) Son of an alcoholic (or something like that)

I'm sure someone else will be posting the entire set list.

Bobby, was it you to whom RB seemed to be talking to a lot & giving out drinks? I think the same person(s) told Doogie & RB something just before the 2nd encore & they started off on Mistreated, so I'm assuming it was a request.

Finally, a big thanks to my company for setting up this business trip, I doubt I would have seen Rainbow in the States.
