Songs:
OVER THE RAINBOW
Same old tape.
SPOTLIGHT KID
Standard Rainbow version. I've never liked the keyboard solo
on this one and it was lame again. Nice lights.
TOO LATE FOR TEARS
Standard version from SIUA.
LONG LIVE ROCK'N'ROLL
This was quite nice. Doogie sang very Dioish and think he managed quite
well. Then the long jamming section which was good. Guitar - vocal
duelling, Doogie singing Starstruck and finally Black Night jamming.
HUNTING HUMANS
Pretty standard, but a little longer version than on SIUA.
Nice playing from RB at the end of the song.
BLUES/WOLF TO THE MOON/DIFFICULT TO CURE/KEYBOARD SOLO
WTTM standard, turned into DTC after solo. Paul Morris put
a lot of effort and energy to his solo, and well... not
too bad but not even close to Tony Carey's old solos.
STILL I'M SAD/DRUM SOLO
New version without intro. Quite dull I think. RB's guitar sound
was quite bad on this one. Turned into drum solo after guitar
solo.
MAN ON THE SILVER MOUNTAIN
This was a big disappointment. Guitar was bad and vocals also
could have been better. Old versions win this one easily.
TEMPLE OF THE KING
This was interesting and they succeeded quite well. Began silently
only with vocals and some guitar stuff. Nice dual vocals from Doogie
and Greg Smith. Then build-up with a good and fairly long solo from
RB. Not at all like the original recording.
BLACK MASQUERADE
A slight disappointment. Acoustic solo played with electric and
was a bit sloppy. PM played a decent keyboard solo.
ARIEL
This was nice. Long intro from RB and PM. RB played well, and
Doogie sang OK. Female vocals at the end from tape/sampled (?).
Silent end section was longer than on SIUA and was good. The
closing was great when riff hit loud and ended the song.
STAND AND FIGHT
Dull.
PERFECT STRANGERS
Quite well performed again. Doogie sang well and keyboard solo
at the end was good. Standard Purple approach to song, but well
done indeed.
IN THE HALL OF THE MOUNTAIN KING
Dull.
Encore:
BURN
I liked this one more than Kari. Good points were Blackmore's
improvisations on riffs, bad were missing keyboard solo and RB's
sloppy Bach section playing. GS sang Hughes' parts. No screams though.
SMOKE ON THE WATER
CHOHW intro. Doogie tried to get audience to sing with no succes.
Interesting thing was to stop playing one by one and then coming back
again as described previously.
Total time: 110 min.
Overall volume was too high. RB's guitar sound was very unclear at some parts.
Ritchie:
Well... some nice playing but generally a bit too uninspired. Seemed
to enjoy though himself. Suffered from bad sound also. Performance
was not even close to the 1993 tour level.
Doogie White:
Sang old songs quite well. New ones were not that good. Stage acts
were a bit similar to Bruce Dickinson.
Paul Morris:
Played a lot more solos and was more up on the mix than in SIUA. Not
a bad player actually, but something still missing.
Greg Smith:
Sang a lot of backgrounds and did them well. Bass playing was
standard. Some nice dual singing with Doogie.
Chuck Burgi:
Medicore performance.
Overall: Slight disappointment.
Highlights: LLRR, TOTK, Ariel and PS.
Samu
Trond J. Strøm 2. October 1995.
