[ d e e p P u r . p l e ) The Highway Star

Deep Purple - 21 April 1999, Sydney Entertainment Centre

Another thrilling performance from a band clearly enjoying life.

Highlights
The Energy - a rousing "Woman From Tokyo". What a great live song!

The Maestro - following "Smoke", Jon toys with the unmistakable riff, flowing seamlessly into "Waltzing Matilda" and back again. Marvellous stuff.

The Confidence - Steve's performance throughout was stunning. He's very much the main man. The rest of the band have stepped back and allowed Steve to blossom. He's loving it.

The Humour - during the "I'll do something and you follow me" interplay between Big Ian and Steve in "Speed King", Steve bangs out a few notes, looks expectantly at Ian who replies "I don't do chords, sorry"!

And for once the worst dressed band member was not Big Ian despite the dodgy jacket. Paicey was wearing what looked like a pair of Pinnochio's pyjamas. Didn't affect his drumming though!

Thanks Guys. Try to get to New Zealand next time :)
