[ d e e p P u r . p l e ) The Highway Star

Fourth time live

I have seen Purple three times before (and Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow twice). The first time was in Chicago in 1972 at the Auditorium Theater when "Machine Head" was coming out. I think they played 7 songs in a 2 1/2 hour set.

Though I love Purple and Steve Morse was probably the best guitarist to ever play in Hong Kong, I felt that they lacked the energy and flash of the old Purple. I guess it is age or familiarity, but though it was a great concert, that edge (maybe Blackmore's stage presence and improvisation added a lot here) was missing and it just seemed like nice music.

Would I see them again? YES! Do I miss the 70's Purple? Yes, I do.
