My Review of the Dayton, Ohio, Show -- Dec. 3, 1996

I just got back from Dayton's Memorial Hall. I live about an hour away, but got lost, so it took me two hours to get there. I knew I was in trouble as soon as I saw I could get a great parking space. As I climbed the steps to the darkened hall, there, on the door, was a handwritter, purple sign: "Deep Purple Cancelled."

This is the second time in a row I've driven to a Deep Purple show only to find out it had been cancelled. If I 'd had time to check this folder last night, I'd have saved myself a trip.

Tell me, folks: If Deep Purple and their management new that Dayton was out far enough in advance to leave it off of the shirts, why couldn't they have been bothered to put a message in the AOL folder or in the newsgroup (which I'm assuming didn't get notified either or else it woul dhave been cross posted to AOL)? I mean, I sure could have put this evening to a lot better use than driving around Ohio. In fact, I turned down overtime so I could keep my ill-fated date with DP.

What's happening? In the 22 years I've been going to concerts, this sort of thing has only happened to me with Deep Purple.

I really wanted to see this lineup. I think Pupendicular kicks butt, but this type of thing really makes it hard to get excited about the band.

Sorry for the length. I just had to vent after all this driving!

Neal
