Flabbergasting

Being that it was the first time for me to go to a concert at the Tanzbrunnen I was pleasantly surprised. What a great venue. A good view from almost everywhere, and I even managed to get within 10 meters of the stage, which was absolutely impossible at Bonn's Museumsmeile last year (See my review).

The openers, The Planets, were quite interesting to watch. They reminded me of a cross between Dream Theater, Jethro Tull and a small orchestra. They were certainly very good on their instruments and the girls were cute to look at. Dio, who I hadn't seen for a couple of years, was in good form and his band is great. With a great amount of power and energy they presented a good selection of old and newer material. Of course one could say the set could have been longer, but being an opener that is out of the question.

Deep Purple hit the stage with a breathtaking Fireball. Their motivation was up and the whole set rocked through and through. They were absolutely flabbergasting. I have never seen such an excellent performance and I rate this as definitely the best show I have seen yet.

Don did a fantastic job, as I also remarked in my review from last year "... the best possible replacement...". He really leaned into the vibe and was having a hell of a time.

Steve was dishing out great stuff. Ian's voice was spectacular. Ian behind the drums played big time and Roger was really enjoying himself. All in all I don't know what else to say other than they are the top notch: The real gods of rock and roll.

God, am I looking forward to the new CD. My pal is lucky enough to have aquired tickets for Hammersmith Odeon. I am pretty envious.

Great guys and keep on rocking...

Simon Goss
