Response To John Clarkes RAH review

Oh, please - I must respond to JOHN CLARKE'S review of the Royal Albert Hall Concert on Sun. 26th Sept. 1999.

I will tell you right now that I never attended the show, since I live in the (OVERRATED) American state of Minnesota. But let me tell you John Clarke, that a musician of Steve Morses capability COULD NOT spoil any Deep Purple Royal Albert Hall Show. NOT POSSIBLE BUD!!! Believe me, I know. I have followed PURPLE since 7th grade, and that was 1972. Steve Morse breathed a new life into PURPLE in such an incredible way that.... that.... how can you say those things about him. You BUM!! If I had a chance to go to that RAH Concert, I would have been floating on air. Anyone who attended should have felt like one of GOD'S CHOSEN FEW.

Think back. He co-wrote classics!! "Loosen My Strings", "Sometimes I Feel...", "The Aviator", "A Touch Away", "Almost Human", "Seventh Heaven", etc., etc., etc. He totally brought new life into "Fireball", "Leo", "Smoke" - YES "SMOKE". He revived the Jon Lord Organ Duel With a Smiling Kick Ass Guitar Player! And he contantly tips his overrated American hat to the classics during his BURNING GUITAR SOLOS, ie. "Skynyrd", "Sabbath", "Zeppelin". He has helped REVIVE an extremely influential band. God Bless Him.

As far as Ritchie Blackmore breaking boundaries the only boundaries he seemed to break were in how to extend ASS-HOLE-ISH-NESS to further realms. Don't get me wrong. I love Ritchie. But I would not want to tour with him. He is such a classic musician, brilliant player, and such a song writer, "Rainbow Rising" among his brilliant acheivements. But as a person he seems to lack the capability of working with talented people, at least for very long.

What is truely SAD about such an event, is those who DO NOT, or CANNOT view such a historic and wonderful event without being critical or negative. Such a wonderful show, and all you could think of was how a player like Ritchie Blackmore would have played with more feeling. Oh Gee! What if Ritchie had a bad night and didn't play with feeling? Would that have wrecked your show? I doubt it!! I think you're just pissed because an overrated American is kicking Ritchie Blackmore's ass all over the place.

Rock On Steve Morse (FINELY RATED AMERICAN) - Ian Gillan (The BEST!!!!) - Jon Lord (EXTREEEEEME TALENT & CLASS) - Roger Glover (THE CATALYST) - Ian Paice (A TRUE CLASSIC). Together you are TRUE LEGENDS.

CAN'T WAIT TO SEE RAH CONCERT ON VIDEO (AGAIN).

Steve Hanson
