Jon’s old Mellotron?
While surfing around on Facebook today, I ran across a picture of a wonderful old Mellotron Mk.II. According to the poster, Streetly Electronics, a British firm specializing in Mellotrons, this instrument was used by Jon on the Book of Taliesyn album.
One comment on the photo mentions that you can hear the Mellotron at about 1:34 into the song Anthem.

The old mellotron’s eh? I was watching a few weeks back, a doco on the tron & all the hassles with it, playing wise etc! But I love the sound of them, The Moody Blues & King Crimson always come to mind. I think Steve Wilson has a restored one, he has used recently with his solo recordings. There is also on youtube, a short clip of Mike Pinder demonstrating his classic Moodie’s pieces, wonderful. Cheers.

February 6th, 2015 at 07:39If only Rod Evans could be found. He did a great job on those first 3 albums. Without him, Simper and the hit “Hush”, there might not be a Deep Purple today.

February 9th, 2015 at 12:25Don actually has a memotron made by a company called Manakin as a rack unit on both Purple rigs. Has some great sounds on it and is very close to the original (and much much easier to use and maintain!) Just thought some on here may be interested…
