Yeah, they are classics albums those 3, but can you imaging how good they would have been had they been recorded with Glover and Gillan? Just look at how much better "The Bird Has Flown" sounds with the Gillan version. As far as what Evans did in 1980, with the Bogus Purple effort, I don't hold that against him at all. Purple officially called it quits in 1976, and after 4 years of each member being committed to their own separate projects, and Purple being gone, I actually give him credit for trying to give it a shot. The problem I have with it is the lame effort he put forth in putting together his ensemble. He had such a great band with Captain Beyond earlier on, and then to attempt the Purple thing in such a slighted effort was the problem. You have to give him credit for one thing though, I believe that incident probably helped jump-start the Purple Reunion in 1984, and that is a good thing....which is like Pudding on the Cake. Nick and Rod have helped making the BASIS of everything after.They were part of the ORIGINAL band we love.
3 great albums they have helped deliver.
Often underrated, neglected or dismissed, those 3 are KILLER CLASSICS.
