“…far from the best show…” Yeah, well…. What can you say?

The show is bloddy amazing! I’ve seen some bootlegs from the 1995 tour, and this show is IMO the most enjoyable because of sound, picture etc.. Blackmore is, as always, amazing. There is no one like him, and there will never be someone like him again. It seemed like he found the joy of playing again in the early ninties, and it lasted until 1997. His sound and playing was superior in the ninties, and IMO he reached his second peak at that time.

This incarnation of Rainbow was by far the best besides the Dio line up, and I’m glad I did get to see them twice on the SIUA tour. They were sooooo amazing! Oh yeah, and Blackmore signed my SIUA CD:-)

You are very right. In fact, I think the playing he did in that last Rainbow line-up was in anticipation of the Blackmore’s Night project. He has cleaned it up a great deal, and it would indeed be interesting to see what his playing would be like today in a rock setting. We see hints of it in Blackmore’s Night, as you allude to by way of the exceptional Paris Moon DVD.

Well, a collector friend of mine came to the rescue with this Dusseldorf-dvd,
as well as Paris -95(backstage cam), Osaka Japan -95(audience shot) & Sao Paulo
Brazil -96(audience/pro shot, inc. interviews, Ritchie & Doogie acoustic in Japan & Ariel promovideo) dvd’s.
The sound quality isn’t very good(Dusseldorf an exception), but I’m really
looking forward to seeing/hearing them, at least as a reminder of how good
this SIUA-line up was…Ritchie really was on top form(from what I’ve heard), even better than in any DP re-union rounds!!

i have had the dusseldorf 1995 show ( and many others from this era of his career) for some time and regard this period as a real highlight of ritchies playing. technique and feeling in abundance with hardly any wasted notes (compare to 80’s reunion era purple … ALOT of wasted notes)! i wish he would do this again …. that is , now that he has even MORE discipline from playing BN music, were he to play rock full time again, the result would be absolutely stunning!!! just check paris moon dvd.. ariel, blues etc.! come on ritchie; … DO IT AGAIN!

Hell, I m lucky to HAVE witnessed the man LIVE with a STRAT in 80, 81, 82(twice), 85, 87(4 times), 90(three times), 93(3 times), 95/96(twice), and of course some snippets in BN………….

Why should I keep omn complaining about having missed the 77 and 78 shows?

This is probably the most overlooked line-up. Blackmore’s guitar has a much more mature sound to it than, say, “Live Between the Eyes” or even the pre-”Battle Rages On” Purple performances. As we all agree, these recordings should have constituted a live album. Fortunately, we have YouTube and there are several more of these floating around out there.

This is for one of the most smokin’ versions of Ariel I’ve seen so far.

I own the complete bootleg DVD (amongst others) and there are certainly some great moments on it.

Later in the tour they performed Mistreated aswell, a real treat to see and hear it.

Every time I find the DP with Morse great, it just takes me 30 sec of DP with RB or Rainbow music to spoil it. He is THE guitar player in my life. Forget Page and all the rest.

Awesome! I saw the Palo Alto, CA (SF Bay area) stop of this tour. It brings back memories. There is no other like Ritchie. I’m going to go pull out the Stranger in us All CD and give a listen again - for the 100th time!

I have a video of this entire show. Very good and it totally escapes me as to why there wasn’t a follow-up album from this line-up. The studio album was very good and Doogie does a great job covering all of the eras of Rainbow and Purple “live”. He has a great range. Also on this video, there is a great interview with Blackmore and Doogie, off the cuff and some very intertaining acoustic performances from them both, whereby they do a rendition of “Hey Joe”, but they actually sing it “Hey OJ….where ya goin’ with that knife in your hand”. This of course, was referring to the media hoopla from the OJ Simpson Trial. They truly seemed to get along very well and I believe a follow-up to the last Rainbow record would have been great. Blackmore’s Night has it’s place, but is should be a side project while Rainbow should be reconstituted and put to the forfront, with Doogie singing.

What was great about these early SIUA tour performances was RB played with such concentration. Among my all time favourite RB solos are Stockholm and Düsseldorf (i.e. this show) takes of Hunting Humans. Intense yet exceptionally controlled by RB standards.

just listen to ‘black masquerade’ and temple of the king.these are the best versions ever.Blackmore is awesome!!!
for the audio bootlegs I like a lot ‘circus night’ live in stockholm which should have been done for an official live recording(as Doggie said’tonight we are recording a live album…)
