Detroit show

8/15/98 Pine Knob in Clarkston Michigan, one of the finest outdoor ampitheaters in the country...graced by the presence of DP tonight.
Sorry Dream Theater, I was stuck in traffic, so I missed your opening performance. It was nice to see ELP, but the show was nothing to get too excited about IMHO. DP was amazing.

Ian is still suffering from the malady that forced the band to cancel a show earlier in the week. You could tell he was feeling pretty bad, but I must say, given the fact that he was ill, he put on an amazing performance: hitting many high notes -- he even traded some lines with Steve later in the show. JL seemed to have a particularly good night -- little Ian and Roger were great. Steve did some nice stuff on his into before SOTW -- it almost appeared as if he was doing a bit of riffing in the RB style, consciously or not. I think the Abandon tunes sound much better live than on the CD, IMHO. Crowd was great, and the place was packed: Big Ian seemed please with the crowd, and again -- he was a real trooper, he obviously was battling a heck of a cold/whatever.

I must go now to check out my abandon T-shirt...
