[ d e e p P u r . p l e ) The Highway Star

Concert Review, Anfiteatro Hotel Herradura, San José Costa Rica
February 8th

This has been one of the few times that a legendary band step in this country. Maybe we'll never watch again Deep Purple here, but who know's it. This has been my very first concert of any kind. I started with the right foot.
The place was little, and not full. There were like 3000 or 5000 persons there. I had the chance to hear the guitar soundcheck. It sounded excelent. Of course, everybody wished that Blackmore could be there, but Steve show us his talent. He's an excelent guitar player and showman. The concert was programmed to start at 6:15 p.m, but it started at 7:30 p.m., with the costarrican band "Ghandi". They made their best effort, but everybody wanted Deep Purple.
At last the stage lights turned purple, and then they started with Hush. At the moment all of us went crazy ! Personally, I was totally amazed. It sounded great. Then, Fireball, Into the fire, Ted the mechanic, Sometimes I feel like screaming, Woman from Tokyo. Smoke on the water and Highway Star really turned us on. Everybody know that songs.
Ian Paice's solo was outstanding. Steve's solos were excellent too. He included a little piece of Led Zeppelin's "Whole lotta love" solo. He also made a great introduction to Smoke on the water.
Ian Gillan still have his powerful voice, an a good vocal imitation of the guitar. Jon was as great as ever. Glover is a good showman and a notoriously good bassist. Excelent. I can't still believe I saw Deep Purple live!! It's a dream!
The show is historical. I hope they come back again for their next tour.

Thanks so much for the unforgettable show you brought us.

Long life to Deep Purple !

Juan Sjobohm
