Text: Gang AproPo.jpg - The first meeting place was The Royal George pub on Goslett Yard - home of The Purple Lounge! We didn't know this. Friday, 24/09/99. Apropo2.jpg - More glee with another Purple Lounge sign. Karma! :-) Garfunkel's.jpg.- After a thoroughly exasperating trip to some Tex-Mex restaurant with more rules than the Royal Family, we settled in here for an "after swill snack." L to R - Nick Soveiko (Ottawa,Ont, Canada), Andy Graham (Edinburgh, Scotland), Wolf Schneider (Vancouver,BC, Canada), Svante Petterssen (Malmo, Sweden), Rich Shailor, Julie Shailor (Salem,Mass.,USA), Stephen Thompson (Edinburgh, Scotland), Kevin Dixon (Perth, Scotland) and Glen Miller (Calgary,AB, Canada). Goat1.jpg - Glen Miller mugs for the camera in front of our second designated meeting place - The Goat Tavern on Kensington High Street, Saturday, 25/09/99. Goat2.jpg - Hein Bierman (Amsterdam, Holland), Nick, Svante, Wolf, Nancy Smith (St. Alban's, England), Lene Kittelsen (Oslo, Norway), Gary Smith (standing), Daniel Bengtsson (Gothenburg, Sweden), and Karin Wieslander (Solna, Sweden) enjoy Purple discussions. Goat3.jpg - The "other" table. Clockwise from Mash (kneeling Bolton,England), Par Holmgren (Uppsala, Sweden), Robert Lundgren (Sweden), Matz Lagnefors (Gothenburg, Sweden), Leif Fors (Stockholm, Sweden), Kevin Dixon, Callum Smail (Scotland), Kari Ahokas or Tero Honkasalo (Finland) Sirpa Hammer (Finland), ? ? (more Fins!) Missing from these pics are stalwarts of the Caramba Club from Australia, New Zealand, Chile, etc. Truly an "International Gathering of the Fans!" Goat4.jpg - Gary Smith, Rasmus Heide (Aarhus, Denmark), Glen, Anders Hustveit (Oslo, Norway), Julie (hidden), Rich, and Mash enjoy each other's company. At the table in the background you can see Lene, Rodrigo Victor (White DP T-shirt, Brazil), Daniel, Nick and Karin. Mash made it here by the skin of his teeth due to an unfortunate catastrophic MVA on the Motorway, which he narrowly escaped. GreenTongue.jpg - Nick demonstrates how beer can ruin your love life! Hilton.jpg - Never say die! After all night at The Royal George, food and drink at Garfunkel's, all with jetlag, we went over to The Olympia Hilton for more! Why? We had to say "Hi!" to Doug MacBeath (Edinburgh, Scotland) of course! :-) We also had to make good our promise of free beer to Doug and Stephen for great Concerto seats! (Mission: Accomplished!) >:-> jcPoster.jpg - As Glen, Line and I had seen little of London on past trips, and Nick had never been here, we opted to walk over to The Royal George, rather than take "The Tube." Of course, we were passing right by the RAH and had to take the obligatory "I made it!" shots. Why they didn't sell these posters, I'll never know... :-( I also found out quickly that I was the only guy in London wearing shorts! nsPoster.jpg - Insert Nick, remove shorts, add hair, beard, and jeans! Poster1.jpg - Nah! Glen and Nick are really here for Beethoven. NOT!! QG.jpg - The first pic of the trip, taken in front of our London "home" - The Queen's Gate Hotel, 54 Queen's Gate Road. A "lift" would have been an asset! RG1.jpg - The first of the first! Par and Leif meet Nick, Line, Glen and I for the first time. :-) RG2.jpg - Wolf Schneider arrives... RG3.jpg - Stephen, Andy, Svante and Rich & Julie show up. Rich and Julie needed the "911" call. Glen explains, "Well, Ian Gillan was on my couch, with this tape, you see and..." RG4.jpg - The swapping of Deep Purple "war stories." It's been a very Purple year! :-) Some of us were in Germany together in June. Others together at other points in the tour. RG5.jpg - The crowd thickens. We now have Mikael Wikland (Sweden), Ketil Mikkelsen (Norway), Par, Leif, Line Corrigan, Margaret Graham (Stephen's mother, Scotland), Nick, Wolf, Glen, Stephen, Andy, Blanka Raue (Oberharthausen, Germany), Julie, Gerrit Raue, Rich and Svante. Missing - Doug (at a friend's) and the the camera bug. RG6.jpg - Leif, Michael, Ketil, and Par - "This is great stuff!" RG7.jpg - Wolf shows he's not a Scot! ;-) Aren't cameras wonderful things? RG8.jpg - Rich and Julie Shailor - our very own "Honeymooners." A wonderful couple, who re-arranged their honeymoon to see the RAH shows and to be with us. We were richer for it! Congratulations! Wolftothetube.jpg - What self-respecting visitor to London could resist a ride on the world's oldest subway system? Wolf seems impressed! We were actually in a hurry to get to Doug and drink yet more beer! (I believe it was Kronnenberg 1664) :-)
