Deep Purple - Hohenems, Austria

Sunday, 31 March 1996

YESTERDAY WAS THE first of three shows in Austria. I guess that I was the only one from amdp out there... well, it was a pretty small gig indeed! The hall (tennis hall) has a capacity for 4500 people and about 3500 were there.

The set list was just the ordinary one from the German tour. They played for about 2hours and a few minutes.

Compared to the first German gig in Ulm (about 2 weeks ago) last nite was more relaxed, probably because they liked playing in front of such a small crowd... The atmosphere in the hall was superb!

The highlights to me were: 'Pictures of Home' with lots of brilliant solos by Jon, Rog & Steve. IG's voice was much much better than 2 weeks before and he didn't have to look up any lyrics at all!!!

Yes, lots of nice keyboard work from Jon. And Paicey played 'Black Night' like in these old days...

'Bloodsucker' was probably the best number of the nite; one reason for that was IG's incredibly powerful screaming!

Also 'Sometimes I Feel Like Screaming' and 'Rosa's Cantina' were pretty good.

All in all a great performance by the band! I was happy with the Ulm gig and now they became even better...

America - watch out for DP! They're at their best.

To the band; have a safe trip and stay healthy.

Good luck!

Cheers,
Ingo.
