Here we go again

‘Tis this time of the year when the nominees for 2014 induction to the RnR Hall of Fame are announced, and Deep Purple are in the running again. You can vote at RollingStone.com (not that it will do much good).

    Mark M. says:

They should arrange a three band bill with Purple, Kiss and Yes on the same day as the RnR hall of Shame inductions, in the same city. Wanna bet which show would be better attended????

  2. 2
    Tom says:

It’s whoever rolling stone likes and they have lousy taste. It’s a joke. Not only should Purple have been in long ago and way before sabbath but how are bands like Chicago still not in?

  3. 3
    Tommy H. says:

Again, I’m shocked that there is a load of musicians on that list, who are/were popular or influential in other genres of music but not in rock. LL Cool J – You must be freakin’ kiddin’ me! Cat Stevens is a fine singer/songwriter but no rock musician as well. Deep Purple and Yes deserve to be inducted!

  4. 4
    cyclone says:

Too late RRHOF. You slapped the face one too many.

  5. 5
    juan S says:

These idiots again Hall of Infamy; just are using the name of Deep Purple for their purposes, from now already have determined the group to join his painful list of course Nirvana and Kiss. Chic, LL Cool, Meters, LWA, Replacements, Cat Stevens, Zombies, etc., shit, shit and more shit.
    RRHF…KISS……..my ass.
Long Live Rock And Roll Deep Purple.

  6. 6
    T says:

I voted for DP as a demonstration of my support. Whether or not they are inducted is of little consequence. Any list that would consider LL Cool J and NWA should not be graced by the presence of Deep Purple.

  7. 7
    Jose Arce says:

    Hope Deep Purple reject it.

  8. 8
    Deeperpurps says:

Voting in this little sham will be a complete waste of time. The outcome is already predetermined by the RRHOF selection panel made up of RollingStone magazine associates and hangers-on. It does not matter how many public votes the band receives. Deep Purple will not be inducted for a plethora of reasons, none of them touching on the actual value and worth of their music……it all comes down to hype, corporate interests, sales numbers, fashion, etc, etc. Deep Purple has never played the little games required to achieve recognition from The Hall. As such they will not make it in this time, nor any time soon.

Deep Purple should wear the upcoming and continuing rejection as a badge of honour.

    al says:

@1 we fans, want them in,but that “Hall” have lost its credibility long time ago.I’ wouldn’t be surprised if they get snubbed by the Hall of Hip Hop and else but Rock !

  10. 10
    Don says:

The best thing Deep Purple can do is to ignore the RNRHOF. If they’d been given their due, they’d have been inducted 20 years ago, in the early 90’s, along with Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath. Now: too little, too late. They came in 2nd last year, in the popular vote, and still didn’t get inducted. Insult to injury IMO. They don’t need to be inducted, and ignoring those who have ignored them for the past 20+ years is the best course of action.

  11. 11
    Errol Arias says:

Deep Purple sharing places with “Chic”,”LLCool j”,”Nwa” ? That’s insulting! someone has to avoid it… As #1 said, hope DP reject it !
RnRHoF IS A COMPLETE SHAME !

  12. 12
    MacGregor says:

Wow, 2 of my favourite bands nominated for the RnRHOF, I am in heaven or is it hell? Seriously though, Purple & Yes being nominated this time is very predictable. Purple simply because of the ‘outcry’ at not being nominated as yet, especially last year & also a sort of pseudo version of Yes were up there recently, at the Hall’s request apparently. So there you have it, sheeesh, looking at the early 70’s images at the Rolling Stone site, it appears that obviously the ‘classic’ lineup of both bands is the one being nominated!
Am I right or am I right? Cheers.

  13. 13
    Jim Murphy says:

They need to tell the RnR hall of fame to shove it up their collective arses, they aint on elastic(to steal a similar quote from Jon Lord about Gillan)to be snubbed again and again shows these people have no musical taste what so ever, going on past inductees I see Purple being outvoted for Timmy Mallet as this seems to be the way the HoF is going.
It is now a discredited institution and I for one hope every member of Purple turn this trinket of an award down, all true Purple fans should never vote, it needs to be ignored and I for one will be doing just that.

  14. 14
    Mikethebike says:

Unfortunately KISS will grab it this time, that is my prediction, or perhaps Nirvana. I voted on Purple anyway of course:)

  15. 15
    Nick Martinez says:

mark II and only mark II

  16. 16
    kraatzy says:

Every year the same crap … sorry guys … our friends in purple don´t want it … me too

    Gary says:

Tough field this year – If The Boys lost to Heart last time, they are up against Kiss ( good lord!!), Nirvana and Peter Gabriel, not too mention Yes. i wish them much luck, but not much hope. One day people will open their eyes.

  18. 18
    Drdp says:

HOF is a JOKE, Always has been. It’s just a PR tool for that idiot Jan Wenner. The fact of inducting GARBAGE like Madonna and these God-awful rap artists has sullied the very name of R n R. Are any of OUR bands in any of THEIR institutions? THEY have The AMA’s/Grammy’s Latin Grammy’s VMA’s etc. Leave ROCK for The ROCK Hall! Sadly it’s too late as the fool of Rolling Stone magazine has seen fit to dilute the very definition of Rock and Roll into the travesty that we see today.
Currently, The ignominy of not being inducted yet when they FIRST qualified in 1994 should preclude the band REFUSING this dubious honor.

  19. 19
    Deeperpurps says:

It is all soooooooooooo predictable…….I have absolutely no doubt that those critical darlings Nirvana will get in immediately. Hype will win the day for KISS too. And establishment man Peter Gabriel will get in for sure…..that will leave the crumbs behind for other so-called contenders LL Cool J and NWA.

Then who will get the short end of the stick???? Guess who….Yes and Purple….the most musical of all the bands on display in this year’s crop.

Don’t get your hopes up for Purple, they are going to be snubbed for sure……the selection panel have too many ties to RollingStone and other corporate interests…….Purple was never in fashion nor favour, nor will they ever will be.

Console yourselves with the fact that the RRHOF is an institution of diminishing returns…….so many so-called “rock” acts of questionable worth have been nominated and or inducted, that it has completely diluted, depreciated, devalued and cheapened the term “rock”. Any credibility that the Hall may have had in its early days is looooooong gone.

Know that no matter what happens, the music of Deep Purple will still be ours to listen to and enjoy, even if it does not receive the well-deserved recognition to which it is due.

And Gents, to prove my earlier points, please see below this excerpt from Canadian media site CTV News about the nominations for RRHOF. Of course Nirvana and Linda Ronstadt get most of the attention. Then there is a little poll at the bottom of the page, this is how it reads

    “TODAY’S POLL

Which heavyweight Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominee is your favourite?

    Nirvana
    Linda Ronstadt
    Peter Gabriel
    Hall and Oates
    The Replacements
    KISS
    LL Cool J
    Cat Stevens
    Chic

GENTS…….DID YOU NOTICE SOMETHING?????? NARY A WORD OR MENTION OF “YES” OR “DEEP PURPLE” IN THIS SILLY LITTLE CTV NEWS POLL……….THIS DOES NOT BODE WELL FOR EITHER BAND’S CHANCES IN THE REAL POLL AT RRHOF.

Stay tuned…..and as I say: don’t get your hopes up, they will only be dashed!

    Tracy(Zero the Hero)Heyder says:

    We can say what we want about the obvious lack of legitimacy this organization contains, but it is a hugely respected and popular event that does spotlight whoever is honored and even inducted. I totally agree that the choosing factor is and has been total BULLSHIT. But I also feel that even though that is the case, it does bring attention to the artist that is honored and ANY attention brought to PURPLE is good attention. The subject itself is broadened by other entities whom jump on the bandwagon and discuss the issue. Last time around, Eddie Trunk was very vocal on his TV Show “That Metal Show” about the audacity of Purple being passed over all these years. He discussed it with various other artists such as Alice Cooper whom he is given credit for getting inducted the year before. The firestorm that ensues as a result of the controversy of the nomination is good for Purple, inducted or not. Their nomination last year along with the new album was a great combination that put a spotlight on them and it rejuvenated an awareness of their existence and relevance. As f..ked up as the RRHOF is, it is also a platform for exposure. Rolling Stone Magazine hosting the ‘Ballot Box’ is good exposure and also the following articles that will be published in various other magazines such as ‘Classic Rock’, ‘Metal Hammer’ and the multitude of Web Sites that publish articles related to the event Exposure of any kind here in the US is a good thing. The Purple management should rally around the nomination and do some heavy promotion of the band while the process is going on. A little creative approach using this institution as a fulcrum for some publicity would be win win for Purple, inducted or not. Forget about whether or not the RRHOF is legit or worthy. The exposure and possibility of Purple (and past Purple folk) being honored and stepping on stage for the event, along with the other artists whom will be jamming their tunes in celebration would be an incredible moment for us and them. It is a huge event that is televised and promoted extravagantly, putting the spotlight on the ‘inductees’. Like the organization or not, it’s a huge event here in the US and probably the only thing that will put Purple back on the US map. This country is divided by Red and Blue states. Mix red and blue and we get Purple. The US could use some Purple. Purple deserves it to say the least and one thing is for sure, Purple’s management hasn’t a clue on how to do it…..so;

    VOTE!!!! I did.

And here we go as I stated above…. The Exposure begins. Even in European Publications. It’s a GOOD THING. Purple wins either way.

Its just goes to show you that life is a popularity contest ! otherwise why else would that no talent like Madonna be in the RARHOF !! she sings ( when she’s not lip-syching ) like Betty Boop & performs DANCE MUSIC for God’s sake !!! they’ll probably put KISS in before Purple any way. F Jann Wener & Rolling Stone !!
    DEEP PURPLE FOREVER !!

  24. 24
    CP says:

Purple third in voting behind Nirvana and KISS at this time.

Although they are supposed to go into RRHF 93 or 94 years of the last century or while Jon Lord was with us, never too late
DP is one of the biggest impacts, to band and individually .. a true rocker knows
everyone who begin play guitar starts to riff” Smoke On The Water “..
Deep Purple without entrance RRHF as Wimbledon no winner Goran Ivanisevic
great injustice, gaps…for tenis ,rock music
nominations and number two will not go
      fourth attempt to enter
    as Goran
    hehe

Deep Purple is a long time has elapsed in Rn R hearts, you will enter into a”colorful house”

Chic had a great drummer though 🙂

  30. 30
    Kjetil Maribo says:

Purple will be better off in the long run outside this so-called “Rock’n’roll Hall of Fame”. It’s a bleedin’ joke, the whole thing. Many of the previous inductees have NOTHING to do with rock’n’roll. Take last year as an example: They inducted Donna Summer and Public Enemy; a disco singer and a rap group… I mean… Come on!!

  31. 31
    Pobody\'s Nerfect says:

    attention zero the hero, give it a rest;

Deep Purple already has their fans. We buy all the CDs and DVDs. It’s not like exposure is going to convert the beiber and boy band listeners

  32. 32
    Andrey Barabanshchikov says:

Even if in twenty years DP are not in I’ll vote each time they’re nominated. Trust me — when they eventually are in most of you will drop this RNRHOF-is-a-joke approach. I believe a million percent that there will be a day when the entire mankind will turn purple across the globe with When The Blind Man Cries become a lullaby, Mitzi Dupree sung in church choirs and Vincent Price substitute Gaudeamus in campuses.
So click vote for the Band or keep whining and rhyming. Do something to make their profile bigger! Let the Earth discover!

  33. 33
    Tracy(Zero the Hero)Heyder says:

    Andrey Barabanshchikov @32:

You said it right. Clear as a bell, plain as day. Getting recognized and publicized is what it’s all about. RRHOF and the chatter revolving around it is ALL GOOD!

    ‘Nuff Said!!

Let’s just make sure we spread the word man and make sure that this band gets in.i want it and I want them to get the exposure they deserve.

I voted for those rock heavyweights, Chic.

Man, I already voted and then I looked again and found that I missed “LL Cool J”. Lucky for Purple.

  37. 37

    vote every day!

  38. 38
    MacGregor says:

Tracy @ 36 – I bet you are devastated at missing the vote for LL Cool J, I know I would be, Not! Damn these ‘old school’ rockers getting in the way of these modern day ‘rockers’! Sorry, I meant rappers! Long live Rock ‘n Roll. Cheers!

    Tracy(Zero the Hero)Heyder says:

You can vote more than once???? Well HELL, I’M THERE!!!

  40. 40
    Tracy(Zero the Hero)Heyder says:

Hard to swallow the fact that Nirvana is in first place. Actually it’s even harder to swallow some of the acts that are even on the list period. The top 4 I guess are correct, except for the order. Should be Purple, Yes, KISS, Nirvana…..

  41. 41
    purpledaniel says:

I don´t give a damm about Nirvana and Kiss…Rolling stone has made a life out of Kissing Nirvana´s ….ss. I have never seen a deep Purple cover. Maybe they forgot that DP was the biggest selling band in the states in 1973/1974 and 1985.
I voted for Deep Purple, Yes, Peter Gabriel and Cat Stevens.

  42. 42
    Ron says:

In the next week or so I assume they will announce the selectees. I agree the RNRHOF is all hype. Purple is third in fan balloting (2d last year). The outrage over the snub to Purple in particular has picked up a lot of steam with very public comments citical of Purple ommission by Rush, metalica, Slash and even Eddie Trunk. I can definitely see Purple being snubbed again but if they do get in, I’m going to NYC to see the induction becuase it will be cool to see their songs being highlighted by some of their fans in the industry — Iron Maiden maybe, def leppard who knows?

Also, a lot of talk about Blackmore will errupt. My big question will be — will rod evans finally reappear. I think he paid plenty and long enough for the hoax deep purple fiasco and its time he take his rightful place in Purple’s history!

  43. 43
    Willy B says:

RRHOF makes me laugh. This is just plain stupid. IF ever DP is inducted into the HOF, or rather Hall Of Shame, I really hope the guys would say; Thanks, but no thanks. The band and the fans don’t need this shit!
