Rising sun and down under

It looks like the band will spend this spring (or autumn, depending on how you look at it) in Australia and Far East. Lennard Promotions has just announced the 2010 Deep Purple Australian tour:

  • Apr 27 – Convention Centre, Brisbane
  • Apr 28 – Entertainment Centre, Sydney
  • Apr 29 – Entertainment Centre, Newcastle
  • May 1 – Royal Theatre, Canberra
  • May 2 – Festival Hall, Melbourne
  • May 3 – Entertainment Centre, Adelaide
  • May 5 – Challenge Stadium, Perth

DP will be supported by a young Australian band called Electric Mary. Pre-sale for all Australian tickets starts on February 4. Another date that went on sale today is Singapore on May 12.

Update (Jan 15): there is another date that already went on sale — Hong Kong on May 10.

Note that none of the above is confirmed yet (as of January 14) by the band’s management.

The band also has two dates pencilled in later in May for the Russian Far East: May 21st in Vladivostok and 22nd in Khabarovsk. Neither of those has been confirmed by Thames Talent, but they do appear in Steve Morse’s calendar on his official site, so we deem them as being official. We have also heard from the Russian promoters that this will not be a yet another full blown Russian tour, just the two isolated dates. We can only assume that the band will be “in the neighbourhood” around that time. Stay tuned for further updates.

Thanks to Michael Burrows and deep-purple.ru for the info.

With all these tour dates now through March for individual members and the Band for nearly the rest of the year starting in April. Along with Don’s new cd being recorded now, when will the band be able to RECORD a new album? Time is NOT on their side. Regards,Drdp

End of Jan and the rest of Feb is free for them, so that they can record a new CD.
Do not forget that Rapture Of The Deep was recorded in just 3 weeks 🙂

Hope 2010 will see a new DP CD…

    ROTD

I still feel that the potential grandness of certain songs on the album did not come to light because they did not elaborate further on them.

You could call them Gillan songs instead of DP songs but tracks like Clearly Quite Absurd and Before Time Began could have been CLASSICS id they had added some more PURPLISH extension and colouring.

The PRODUCTION really sucked the life of the rest away, IMHO
BANANAS is still value more, dont care what anyone says.

I thought Gillan sounded very good on the last one.

    Whatever the reasons behind it…..
I think the postponing or not RECORDING Gillan in a studio setting combined with a GOOD and EQUAL sparringpartner is a big shame.

His voice did not get better …..
    All those live dates

    So few recordings to share…..

    Sighhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

I hate others, If things can be done so easily why not do more albums?

#4 George: Lets hope you are correct sir. I only hope they don’t have to rush though due to time restraints. ROTD was a good if not great one but this next one almost HAS to be better. We may have to live with it for at least 5 years if not FOREVER. It very well may be the last new DP studio cd. Hopefully not, but time not only marches on but it’s now wearing Stacked Jack Boots! It’s getting a bit boring seeing them again & again. How about a new studio album, something in the same vein as Machine Head , Perfect Strangers, or Purpendicular.

    George Fotis says:

How about they play some new unheard song’s like Bad Attitude, Gypsyes Kiss , Not Responsible, Wasted Sunsets, Flight Of The Rat, Hard Lovin Man , Hard Lovin Woman , Mad Dog, Dead Or Alive. There are so many other wonderfull songs they can try!

    purplepriest1965 says:

    Hi Mister Fotis

    I do empathise but actually…..
They have done 2 songs of that list recently.
    Did you miss that?

    Cheers, Mark

Hope they’re better than last time they played in Melb. They were unfortunatley truly ‘orrible. And it pains me to write that having been a huge fan since first seeing them in the Bolin days in the mid 70’s at festival hall.

Awesome…I get to see Deep Purple again…this time with the whole family of 5 in Newcastle. They have been incredible every time i have seen them play. I have been a fan since 1968 and love the music.

    michael whitehead says:

Its good to see Deep Purple tour Australia again! But i am a little bit disappointed they are not going to have a concert down in Wollongong like the previous two tours. That would be great to see them in the Gong again.

    Nikos says:

I’ve got front row tickets to Canberra and can’t wait to see them play.

I’d love to see them play Flight of the Rat too, but Paicey doesn’t like this track, so I doubt if it’d ever get played live.

I’t be awesome if they played tracks like Spanish Archer, Mitzi Dupree, Strange Ways, Somebody Stole my Guitar, Perpendicular Waltz, A Touch Away, No No No, The Mule (no need for extended drum solo, but I wouldn’t say no to it), I’m Alone, Slow Train and Freedom to name a few.

It likely wont happen but I’ll be just as happy to see them down here again.

Of course they could surprise me and have the new album finished by the time they get here. Or they can test the new stuff out on us, either way, I’m good.
