And Priest.....I pissed back, and we mutually settled it. Unlike you. You didn't wait for what would Follow (as you put it), because you are more apt to Swallow...Gulp Gulp...

Hi Priest

Good comment. You´re right, of course.

I too prefer Dio, but as you said, all the others had their moments.
Obviously in the studio, but also live. In JLT´s case, the live takes of All night long and Stranded on the Can´t let you go 12" single is a very good example, i think.

Above, i was more thinking of the between song "talking"... That can be a bit much, i think...
And Airey and Rondinelli as soloists is, i guess, just not for me. But as backnig musicians to RB, they are just fine.
Having said that, i have a lot, hundreds, of bootlegs. And, the only reason i have those, is the presence of Ritchie Blackmore. He´s the only reason that i can think of, to make it worthwhile to listen to 10, 15, 20 concerts from the same tour.
For instance, i completely gave up on DP soon after he left. When he was in the band i usually followed them around for a bit during every tour, tried to see as many gigs as i could afford. That soon stopped, and since Jon left, i haven´t seen them at all.

Still, things like this still turn up, which is a good enough reason for me to hang around here from time to time.

All the best

Hi Soren

Well after all is said and done......
There will be plenty old gems to discover and to enjoy and enjoy and enjoy.......

Although Dio is my favourite Rainbow singer, I can really appreciate the others as well

Good memories of those shows with JLT in the early 80 s

I saw them on this tour in Stockholm, my first DP family gig. RB was brilliant!
But listening back to these live tapes, it makes me realize just how empty the whole thing is when RB isn´t working. It was good gigs to go and see, but the thing to HEAR is Ritchie. (I mean, that drum solo. And, deargodinheaven, Don Airey... How horrible can it get...? And on top of that, JLT in his prime...)

I have to say, tho´, Ctrainbow on this really is amazing, guitarwise! Really great for me to hear. I´ll come back to this one for sure!

Most of these versions are different to the "Electrified" 2LP album. (I once owned the original radio promo album of this as well, and that was identical to "Electrified", incl Coke jingles!)

As far as i can tell, only Skid and Isurrender is the same as the original boot. All the rest is "new" versions. (I can´t bring myself to listen to llrnroll, if there is someone who is interrested in that one, sorry, but i refuse to hear Turner again on this one. Refuse!)

There are some parts here worth listening to, guitarwise, but the original boot versions are for the most part better i think. That version of Love´s no friend is still the best one i´ve heard!
Still, some new Blackmore solos to be happy about!

Back to tpoic, I saw Rainbow on this tour, they opened for Pat Travers on a double bill. I remember the papers next day reporting that the crwod could not get enough of guitarist Pat Travers and that Ritchie was a good opener but not what he used to be.

It was completely the other way around with the crwod actually thinning out after Rainbow! Pat Travers was an anti-climax.

I agree... those who bitch about that one must have just jumped on the bandwagon or something. Ridiculous to complain when thats all we were getting with Ritchie in the first place, and even more stale at that because there was never even a thought of playing anything beyond the MIJ set with a few new numbers thrown in... atleast now they oblige with the occasional rarity, which he never entertained the thought of, simply because they were all for it.(he operates that way, spitefully, in case no one noticed... all they ever had to do was out-vote him and I'm sure he would have played along, but since they didn't, he ran game!)

"I tell them what we're going to play, and the set list consists of that" RB-1987

@18

Can't be so bad, listening to 'ST' from 'IC' is about as good as it gets, Ritchie's use of sustain in his solo on that is masterful, it does not get better!

But I now what it's like to hear something thats new to you, especially when it's Ritchie... so thats why it's obvious this makes you happy, which I have to say I'm glad to hear.

The most defining moment on this recording is at the end of "Love's No Friend" when Poof Boy JLT begins his lovely between song banter with:
"How ya doin', nice to see you again....Hey, how many people were here last night? Was anybody here last night? Well good, your gonna hear the same SHIT over again. With a lot more enthusiasm.....". Yeah, I'd pick him to sing for Deep Purple......NOT!!!! What an asshole...As with Deep Purple, he was an IDIOT on stage.
Plus, for all you folks who complain about present Purple sticking to the same set lists, I would have to say that it was much worse when Blackmore was in the band. They stuck to the same set list throughout all of their tours. Once they settled on a set list in promotion of which ever album was released, it stuck until the next album. Not much variation at all. Though I don't care for Poof Boy's attitude, he hit the nail on the head.

Cheers

Hmm...

I´ve had the "Electrified" boot for...godnows how many years, one of my favorites. And, this is not the same version of "Love´s no friend" as on that album. That must have been the first night´s take of it, this is probably second night I´ve never heard this verion before, must listen to it again, as well as the rest, to see if that´s different too. Great to hear a "new" version, i think!

Maybe it had something to do they did a show in the States?
On my Rotterdam bootleg there is much less ADHD talk in between the songs.

Rondinelli also has great wit, I noticed during a drum clinic near Amsterdam a few years ago.
I could not stop laughing.
And that says a lot, hehehe
Met him there and after a Lizards show
Both times he was very friendly
Dunno why lots of people think he s an arrogant bastard.
Must be his Italian Maffia staring eyes....

Somewhere stashed in my boxes of Vinyl, I have this. "Electified". Glad it surfaced here so I could hear it again. I forgot about the transistion after GB left whereby JLT sang some of the tunes from 'Down to Earth' besides All Night Long. Great energy here and Rondenelli (aside from his over-extended solo) was awesome back then. I've heard him lately and isn't quite as fluid and quick as then, but still great. His style is the closest to Ian Paice in the Rock business. BUT, what I heard here confirms what I have been saying forever....JLT needs to be heard SINGING, NOT TALKING!!!! It's like, I don't want the song to end. Not only because they are performed outstanding, but once the song ends, his banter between makes me want to smash something. He says stuff and acts in such a way, that I now am totally clear on why Ritchie finally punched him in the nose......I FEEL THE SAME WAY.

So.....'SHUT UP and SING'!!!!!

Cheers

One hell of a good Rainbow show, far better than Final Vinyl. Why this isn't commercially available I'll never know. By trimming a chunk off BR's drum solo I've got myself an awesome 77 minute CD-R. A great showcase for this line-up, good ammunition against JLT haters like Rascal and George!!

If Over The Rainbow are only a tenth as good as this, that would make them one of the very top bands in the world, regardless of whether they are a 'tribute' act or not.

@6
Jacko and Prince are straight guys. not stereotypically masculine but very much into their 'thing', they have that 'energy' and drive that distinguishes them.

Gays don't have this kind of energy, their tastes and appearance tends to be generic, stereotypical, shallow, cynical - a rip off of the real thing (i.e. a straight guy). Many women unfortunately also share these traits.

We could probably could be like them, and still be a straight guy, but I don't think it would be very much fun.

Yes, it's "Electrified In Boston" I listened to it on the radio when it aired, purchased the boot later at yes, not a fair price when you see how things are done now.(don't cost anything now, just some HD space, a burner and a little knowhow) There are better boots from that tour, don't let FM broadcast factors stop the search, they're right under everyones noses here on the internet, every single last Rainbow boot in circulation, which amounts to hundreds.

Woflgang's Vault:
Recommended, but only to the non tech savvy, and I'm not sure where the copyright fee goes, they say to the artists, oh really? In Rainbow's case, who would that be?

I missed out on so many great recordings over the years.

Just because I had to be critical
Critical towards sound issues and the financial side of my , ahem, ever extending enthusiasm for not only non DP relates music , DP and family stuff, subjects outside music.

I ve heard of certain titles but somehow I could not get myself to pay all those prices

Not living in a circle of great fans also did not help.
I started this zealotry in 1977 and around me it was not done to live in the past, hey does that not sound familiair, because fashions had to be followed
So when I wanted to borrow albums by the wanted classics I had to rely on people much older than me.

But even those people did not collect loads of bootlegs, so.....

Experience with very bad recorded stuff did not help either.

But I really should have focussed on RADIO SHOWS like this, I think.

Why is this King Biscuit Show never released?!

Wild speculations about the unwillingness of certain parties may follow now.

I often think people follow fashions out of fear being socially cast out.
Espescially women, here anyway, do follow fashions.

Men like women and dont want to get excluded or stay behind and follow as well.
I noticed lots of heavy rockers swith because of this.

One guy literally said.....I am not gay so I ll cut my hair and go to those disco s because the women are THERE!!!
Very funny because DISCO was first very popular in gay circles and still I think high pitched vocals like Michael Jackson and Prince posses, both very popular amongst women, do not sound very masculine to me.

Women are strange!!!

And we are fucked because we have to follow their madness in order to, I again borrow a style of someone ,get some püssy and love.....

People are strange!!!

Well, I chose not to follow fashion and never started smoking, refused to cut my hair and got surprised because it got back in fashion again.....

Ofcourse, it meant some level of isolation had to be endured.

Back to the thread.

For years I have this cd somewhere in my vaults with some tracks from BOSTON 1981 , I forgot the name of the bootkeg but it ended surprsingly with Space Trucking from IN CONCERT!!!!

On this thread there are MORE tracks and sounding very different to my ears.
Still, I wonder.....
Did Rainbow play shorter shows in the USA and skipped tracks like All Night long?
Was THIS the boot called Electrified?

I should have known by now ofcourse.

But held on to my own boot of Rotterdam 81,I still paid lots of Guilders way back to get that.
This boot, darn,....missed out on Love s No Friend deliberately, so I ve been told, recently, cause the man who recorded thought it resembled Mistreated too much
Also he used the SAME TAPE on which he had recorded the 1980 Rotterdam show so had a space problem!!!!
