Now the only thing from "Stormbringer" that coud, er, try to rape ;) me would be an unfaded take of "The Gypsy".
One of the most geniune melodic gems Ritchie has ever made... Which also was a true reaper live - the solo with echo effect and the rousing improvs (usually) by Ritchie... wow.

There's been once a promise to release final MK III concerts in entirety - of which only Paris and big portion of Graz show are available... And if you listen to 'Made In Europe' - you'll notice - Saarbrucken was the best show of the three. Lies in the vaults and bites the dust as the 'Stormbringer' cut-offs do. Bit of a pity....

Re-master my ASS-ter. Just go out and buy a good Equalizer and you can get the same results.....push back the vocals, bring out the vocals, lower the bottom end, bring out the bottom end, and at the same time adjust you Bass and Trebble. You can make a million different remixes all day long.......IT'S ALL BULLSHIT. The prior Remasters had some added unreleased material to make the package worth Rebuying. But if all there is here is someone's 'Remixing the Sound', it's BS. I love all the previous album remixes....Burn was also a rip-off though. If it doesn't include anything NEW...there is No Point.

Just my opinion of course and we know what they say about opinions...

Cheers

I LOVE THW ALBUM STORMBRINGER AND AM LOOKING FORWARD TO BUYING IT YET IT TO ME IS NOT AS GOOD AS BURN I CAN REMEMBER BUYING FOR THE FIRST TIME, EARLY 1975 I GAVE A CHANGE OF MUSIC IN A MELLOW WAY. JON LORD SAID IN A VIDEO I HAVE THAT RITCHIE BLACKMORE DID NOT LIKE STORMBRINGER AND THAT WAS ONE OF THE REASONS HE LEFT DEEP PURPLE AND IT WAS ON HEAVY METEL PIONEERS VHS THAT RITCHIE SAID IN AN INTERVIEW WITH JOE LYNN TURNER THAT HE THOUGHT THAT THE BAND WAS BECOMMING TOO MUCH OF A FUNKY BLUES BAND. I AGREE WITH HIM BUT I AM GLAD THEY MADE STORMBRINGER BECAUSE ITS A FIRST OF ITS KIND AND SHOULD BE THE LAST UNLESS THE SAME GUYS GET BACK TOGETHER AGAIN. ACTUALLY THATS WHY IN MY OPINION THAT LORD AND PAICE DECIDED TO LEAVE AND THE EXCESSIVE TOURING THEY WERE DOING. FRANK MILLER, DP FAN SINCE 1968.

The SACD to DTS 5.1 Machine Head CD says on the back that it plays in any regular CD player too, but I haven't been able to get mine to do that, it just makes a fuzzy noise so apparently it didn't turn out the way it says. It's also REMASTERED in DSD, so unlike the hybrid Stormbringer, it got full DSD treatment, which is all the better for it. This is the ultimate Purple listening experience, by far!

So it's not the first available chance to hear it digitally in Quad.

DTS CD is better than 4.0 DVD if you ask me, that extra channel does wonders, plus it's not just the 5.1 factor, it's superior because of it's level of decoding.
But as far as the band having anything to do with these bybrids, this is actually a first in that aspect, as they had nothing to do with the MH DVD-A and SACD DTS 5.1 releases or the also mentioned Stormbringer.(the latter MH not mentioned by me prior, but it was released in that hybrid format and quickly discontinued as well)

Some audiophile material of this sort can be obsolete before it's discovered, but some on the other hand is vicious sounding and worthy of pointing out to the masses, such as these particular hybrids made for their respective players but most universally, surround sound DTS decoded players only.

There are DTS 5.1 CD, SACD and DSD stereo hybrid CD versions of Stormbringer that are already out of print but likely as good as what the new release will feature, sound quality wise.

You can't buy them new or used anywhere I know of, but they were available with ease when they were released some time ago.
Here is a shot of the DTS 5.1 CD version, for those who don't know what I'm talking about...

It is one of the best (not THE best) albums, ans some of the song are engraved in my memory so I can listen to them whenever I want. So I allready have my own remix. I'll stick to that is this aniversary edition does not offer anything new.

Why not use the comcept like was done for the "In Rock" aniversary album? Give some in betweens, historical build ups aso,... or like the "In japan",... where you get sessions from 3 outta 4 concerts,... where you can choose the version where Ritchy shows how to fuck up "Smoke",... funny and only the great can efford to show to be human.

When it comes to Glen Hughes,.. he has one brilliant album,... as good as the best album ever (alongside DP In Rock, Bolin's Teaser end Simpers Fandango stuff) and that's his album "Play me out".

I'm not waiting for this Stormbringer release at all.
It can only be dissapointing when there's no REAL extra on it.

We promote the artist's by providing recordings and what do you know, the artist's send us their releases free of charge for doing so, I'd say we're doing something right as a community.
Take the plunge, that is if you have enough savvy.

You're welcome, no arrogance by your definition intended, just generosity, your choice of thousands of recordings await, that is unless you're already secretly leeching.lol!

To come off as if you own something you don't, is also not just arrogant, it's dishonest. Btw, I assumed nothing, otherwise you'd agree by saying you're aware of recordings I talk about. And fyi, botleg recording is a 'cultural' thing too, of much more than the cult status you might think, it's beginning to lend a bigger hand in promoting artist's than ever before, millions doing it on music blogs on the internet don't lie, in fact I'll bet it rivals official sales in this day and age. Do it your selfers are here to stay and I might be wrong, but you're headed for the plunge yourself, but you can always deny that... deprive yourself at the risk of drying up.

Both Rising and The House of Blue Light are in dire need of remixing--that is, an official re-mix for the general public at large--not just audiophiles. It would do good for sales of the back catalogue and Rainbow exposure and serve the entire fan base.

I'm well aware of Blackmore's philosophy regarding reïssues and re-releases. This is why I said most likely we will never see a series of the type as the Deep Purple re-mixes.

Record companies often offer re-mixes and alternate artwork--even alternate songs or running order--tailored to fit the tastes of the target market. The Japanese, for example, come to expect something "extra" not available everywhere else (it's a cultural thing), and the record companies tend to oblige. This keeps the "self respecting collectors" busy, too.

To assume what a person might have heard, not heard, owns, doesn't own, knows or doesn't know is arrogant presumption.

I'm not talking about the so called remaster, I'm obviously pointing out the Japanese import and the FACT that Rising featured two different mixes in the first place, seek out a Japanese copy because they won't be remixing it thanks to Ritchie's self righteous preservation tactics. The original Jap sounds light years ahead of the so called remaster.
He believes an album should not be remastered, remixed or anything, he says if it was good enough to release the first time, it should be left alone... looks like it's up to him.

I see nothing wrong with seeking a copy of what you have yet to hear in the rough mixes boot, after all, it doesn't cost anything but good communication with someone offering it, and there are thousands of us, we don't bite, and we wear muzzles for those who do, in the form of contempt. lol!

One should explore the wonderful world of bootlegs and discover the free treasures, that way pining for some different/alternate recordings will be more than satisfied.

In the case of Rising, the rough mixes provide the listener with what all there is to look for.
For one, Rising always featured two different mixes, any self respecting collector knows what I'm talking about. There is the German mix and the US mix. Get your hands on a Japanese copy and proceed to be impressed.

The Rising rough mixes bootleg is what any fan would highly enjoy, with a surreal sound, especially now that it's been remastered by an associate of mine. Find the Carey intro to Stargazer and that alone satisfies, besides the mix itself.

Even in the case of Born Again, it's a fact that sometimes it sounds tons better before it was even mixed, tons....

Enter bootleg collecting for your own piece of mind, if anything.

I have always admired Martin Birch as both an engineer and producer. With Birch twiddling the knobs, you're bound to get nice, strong sound, particularly in the early recordings.

In addition, I agree The House of Blue Light needs a re-mix, as does Rainbow Rising--but I doubt we will see a re-mixed series of Rainbow in the same way the DP albums were done.

As far as Stormbringer is concerned, at one point there was enough material for a double album. One can only assume these songs were wiped, lost, or not approved for release. It wouldn't be the first time an extra or two were nixed for the re-mix series due to objections from the members or management.

Interesting how the barn was deleted from the artwork. It's in the July 8, 1927 Jasper, MN tornado photograph used to make the original cover.

Slight correction on Abandon, the engineers first name is Darrin.

Okay, if Birtch played on that Fleetwood Mac album I wasn't aware of it at all. I'm talking about something Purple related in a way.

I think Martin's best work was on MH, Lazy is the best example, it verges on the over-engineered.

Bradford was in L.A. so he managed to guest at both Hollywood and Amaheim's HOB, two venues I can say are great places to catch a gig.
I thought his performance on Anaheim was unnesessary and comical, just as his appearance Montreux was. The funny thing is, he got produced by the amazing Nick Blagona on that DVD and should really admire the outcome, it has the best sound of any live performance DVD I've ever heard, simply sweat, warm and fuzzy. Man that thing rocks!

Mutt for Purple, hhmm... Twaine is his recently divorced wife who he married and produced and wrote easy country songs for, who is now in possession of the farm estate.(yummy)

Y'all can always catch up with me here at one of my homestead's and chat with the Undergrounders, have fun talking.(GM - Admin)

Thanks for the 'Technical' clarification of the task of Mr. Birch. Either way, Production or Engineering, the influence shines through immensely and basically all I was getting at is that it's time to send Bradford Packing.....
He did tour with Gillan on his 'Gillan's Inn' gigs a little and guested on his Live in Anaheim show, whereby Ian introduces him as his 'Bro, and even Dad. I can only hope that doesn't mean they are attached at the hip (hop) any longer....

Stefan: I dig your point here, and agree. I guess the point I was getting at there was that his success with him producing music that seems to become main-stream airplay, it would really be great to see these guys take the plunge and go to the effort to acquire the input and tools to get a final shot at that 'Recognized Success' they so deserve for the music that is so good that the world just doesn't get exposed to...

Sound like Def Leppard or Shania? Hardly, but get some of that notoriety? Absolutely. He did work with AC/DC, Foreigner, and others.....He has just finished up the Nickelback record and from what I have read, it kicks ass.....(for those whom like their stuff).

Again, I'm not trying to sell Mutt on you. I really don't know what they should do, but I would like to see a really Balls to the Wall approach towards really doing something that gets them their due.....

Cheers

Crimson Ghost
thank you very much for your answer!

I find it very sad because at first it makes me think that DP in 2009 are not free to decide what playing on stage and
at the second
because I find THOBL a good album (surely not excellent like perfect Strangers but better than others..).

sad!

Martin Birch?
he played guitar on Fleetwood Mac's album (Mystery to Me)

Tracy, what I meant to say is that Birtch was not their producer in mkII days, they were. He handled the engineering and was considered the sixth member during recording sessions.
But he went on to produce them later.

Glover did produce Abandon, Derrick Schnider engineered it.

Andre, when asked why they never play HOBL material, Roger says "ask the management" and I say that applies to a lot of set list factors. It's like they and the promoters demand the set to be dominated by the most well known songs according to sales, everywhere they play.

Million dollar trivia question: what artist did Martin Birtch play guitar for, and what was the name of the album he played on?

I was referring to MK2. Machine Head is MK2 and Martin was involved in that one. I was saying that I would like to see him return for the present stuff. I agree with the Purpendicular aspect. Also Abandon. Many folks pan it, I happen to like the heavier dark side......

Look forward to the Coop.

Thanks,

Cheers and Merry Christmas to you too.....

Martin Engineered mkII albums, all were produced by Deep Purple for Edwards/Colletta, if they were to bring him back he'd be in the position he was never in with them, he produced them later though, but not that line up. Bradford is not for me, he has also completely gone into hiding since Rapture and has refused to be talked with about it, as where he was talking to me after Bananas... don't get me started, Deep Purple wrote and produced Purpendicular, and that's one of it's many many strengths.

GHOST: No, I never got it. Do you still have my e-mail?

Also, I agree with you on the MH effect. That's mainly due to the fact that MH is a much more quality recording to begin with. Let's face it. 5 of the greatest musicians to hit the planet on this. Plus, Martin Birch......Where is he today? I think it's time to bring him back for the next LP. Actually, (I know this is lame but) Mutt Lang would be something for them to check into......I can see him doing something positive for the Purps. Better than Bradford.

Cheers

Tracy, I have the Coop DVD-A and the Doors L.A. Woman and I agree they do the trick, but MH is more effective to me somehow.

Hey, did you get that Coop video I sent, the rare 71 program?

These days seem to mellow us all?

Indeed , DVD s of PS and HOBL tours, please-
Will it be before I step into my grave?

My soundsystem really could benefit from upgrading but unfortunately I have to put my priorities in other areas.

So much for being honest.

GHOST: I have to agree with you on the MH 5.1 DVD. They also released one of my other favs in that format.....'Alice Cooper- Billion Dollar Babies'. Totally blows other versions away.

Back to the 'SB Remaster'. I find it difficult to believe that there is absolutely no unreleased tunes from those sessions.. Surely one of these guys has some tapes from that era. It's a shame that they won't go to the hassle to include 'anything' obscure when going through the effort to put out a remaster. Unfortunately, a few years down the road, they will uncover some more 'unreleased tracks' from ALL of the studio records and then "Remaster the Remasters"........it never ends....

Priest: for under $400.00, you can put together an absolutely incredible sound system which will do it ALL. That's the beauty of electronics....They just get better, and cheaper. People spend in the thousands for 'Upper-end' stuff. That's all fine and dandy, if you are paying for certain special devices for your electronic pleasure, but as far as sound quality, $400.00 will definitely do the trick. Especially if you already have certain basics. The Human Ear is only capable of deciphering so much.....there is a point where you can't tell the difference anyway. One thing I did was, purchase a very decent quality sound system. When you spend as much time as you do listening to music.......It makes no sense to lessen the 'listening experience' with a cheap ass equipment. All you need is a Sub-woofer, a center speaker, 2 good front speakers, and 2 good rear speakers. Then of course a DVD player. You can save money by skipping the CD player, because DVD players play both. A good amp or receiver. You probably already have most of this and of course I'm sure you have a TV.

CRANK IT UP AND JAM OOOOOUUUUUUUTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!

Cheers and MERRY FUCKING CHRISTMASSSSSSSS!!!!!!! TO YOU ALLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!

Unfortunate reality it is, and it's also very enslaving to have to deal with upgrades... I bought my first DVD player just for the 99 Concerto DVD, cost me $298, bought way too early, ya think? It's frustrating, but you don't have to have everything to know what you like, if you can't enjoy it in stereo, something about it isn't right, stereo should come before high end production.

I bought the MH DVD Audio a few years back and was really impressed with the sound. The MH Remaster was a real disappontment to the DVD.

The DVD sounded like if the old recording (from the hotel, remember) had been taken apart and put together in a decent studio (no hotel sound ;-)).

Cheers

@ Karl

They did release MH quad in digital form already, as mentioned above, Machine Head DVD-Audio on Rhino Records. Not only that, they added an extra channell and a half to fully open it up and the result I guarantee you is like nothing you've ever heard when played through a 5.1 system, and if you have a good media player and at least a 5.1 soundblaster card and media player that supports DVD-A, then you get even more picture features and a completely different menu, and you don't need a DVD-A player in order to get the video footage, which is just a few spots of Copenhagan 72.(not important, but it is on there)
Nothing beats this release, I assure you, nothing.

I bought this when it came out at retail price, less than $20 if I remember correctly. But now you have to shop around for as low a price as you can find, simply because you can't get it new for cheap that I know of.
new - http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B0000560X3/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&condition=new

But you can do much better used, around half that cost:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B0000560X3/ref=dp_olp_used?ie=UTF8&condition=used

I know it's bloody expensive but it is no longer in print and now a pretty serious collectors item, which the price is 100% reflective of.
As I said, you will not have a better DP listening experience if you hear this version, because there is nothing better available, it makes you feel like you're sitting in the studio in 1972 and the band is doing a one time run through of the tracks live, seriously, it's that wicked! A spooky trip indeed, talk about chills, especially the first time you hear it.

I bought this when it came out at retail price, less than $20 if I remember correctly. But now you have to shop around for as low a price as you can find, simply because you can’t get it new for cheap that I know of.
new - http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B0000560X3/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&condition=new

But you can do much better used, around half that cost:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B0000560X3/ref=dp_olp_used?ie=UTF8&condition=used

I know it’s bloody expensive but it is no longer in print and now a pretty serious collectors item, which the price is 100% reflective of.
As I said, you will not have a better DP listening experience if you hear this version, because there is nothing better available, it makes you feel like you’re sitting in the studio in 1972 and the band is doing a one time run through of the tracks live, seriously, it’s that wicked! A spooky trip indeed, talk about chills, especially the first time you hear it.

I'm looking forward to this too..

But why aren't there any album outtakes or other versions? I have kinda the same feeling as Tracy. I see no point other than the quad mix. That's gonna be great though!

I'm looking very forward to the release.
With the DVD it's the first attempt to listen to the Quadro-Version in really Quadro (4 Channels!).
I hope they also release the "Machine Head Quadro2 in the same form.

But, what about the announced 4 different vocal takes of "Soldier Of Fortune" and the original Coverdale Intro to "Stormbringer" (OK the last one will be too vulgar for the american market - but for Europe?).
It's a pity, that these things are missing. I think thereis enough space.
I also hoped there would be more instrumental mixes. There is only the already released "High Ball Shooter Instrumental" ("Listen, Learn, Read On" box).

Is it right, that Hughes does new vocals for the "Glenn Hughes Remix" (it would be interesting)?

It was time for a remaster and will be one of the first in the my music shop.

Hmm, Russ and Tracy my friends... not sure what happened to the inclusion of the video piece, maybe it's just not mentioned in the specs here. Tracy, if I want to listen to Stormbringer I play the deleted hybrid disc, it's superior to even the original quad mix, and I'm not hardly kidding. But this will be even better, because when you separate the data into files, you reduce distortion to a minimum, and surround mastering is not regulated like CD audio. It's adjusted custom style, not by a fixed level for radio play as directed by the labels. Believe me, it's a cosmic experience of the sensational audio variety. Anyone I know of who has heard the Rhino MH DVD Audio in 5.1 has yet to argue.(also deleted, unfortunately)

So what happened to the exclusive video footage that was to be included on the DVD? Are they holding that for the 70th Anniversary release?
