Blackmore’s Night in the media

St. Petersburg, June 11 2008. Photo © http://spblife.info, used with permission.Blackmore’s Night enjoys coverage not only in fanzines:

Castles and Dreams DVD sold enough copies in Germany to achieve gold status. An award to that effect was presented to the band on September 3rd at the Aegi Theater in Hannover.

Secret Voyage stayed atop of the Billboard New Age charts in the US for 8 straignt weeks.

Discovery Channel HD Theater in the US featured Renaissance festival in the Czech town of Český Krumlov on it’s regular show Fantastic Festivals of the World. This year Blackmore’s Night were part of the festival and the episode includes interview with Ritchie and Candice and performance footage. The episode was aired on September 15 and will repeat on Sep 21, 4:00 am, Sep 21, 5:00 pm, and Sep 27, 5:00 pm. We have no idea if the show appears on Discovery Channel incarnations in other countries, so check your cable/satellite listings.

Thanks to Blackmore Productions for the info.

Despite the unfortunate title of “God Save the Keg,” the opening track to “Secret Voyage” is among the best pieces Blackmore’s Night has ever done–from the rondo structure to the Gregorian-style chant and segue into “Locked Within a Crystal Ball.” Very well done.

I’m happy to see Blackmore receive some accolades, particularly here in America.

Blackmore isn´t a rock musican any more, he is a “Schlagermusikinterpret”. Jürgen Blackmore will understand…:-)

I think mr. black have been feeling at home here. Sometime their music is fresh in my ear even it doesn’t attract me to be the fan. But as I do not pay attention to much to BN, do turnoil situation or personel change ever happen in this new age band? Or is BN a band or just a duo?? Answer me please..

  6. 6
    Crimson Ghost says:

They’re a duo that pretends to be a band as they go through just as many personel changes as Blackmore ever has, his apparent policy there hasn’t changed one bit. But they always talk about things from a band perspective, which is ass backwards, but it’s a long story concerning BN and how they do people.

    Danny says:

No suprise that BN are receiving awards from Germany. Seems like they play there every other night……

I’d like to see Blackmore & Lord do an album together. Acoustic bits, maybe some old renaissance or baroque melodies with some improvisation.

Thought I saw the interview the other nite. Switched on the TV saw a bunch of men in tights prancing about a long haired wench….

    I thought…..oh fuck its Blackmore..

I nearly went for the off button…..then realised it was a ‘Robin Hood & Maid Marian’ film……

It was the 1938 Errol Flynn version……. You just have to appreciate the ‘Technicolor’ in those days…fanstastic!

    Anyway…..I sat and watched it.

    SEVEN-47 says:

    Tracy Heyder says:

    OK here we go….

Told you the timer was set.

I recorded it. It’s a great show. As I have stated prior, I am a ‘Renaissance Festival’ attendee. Prior to Ritchie going bonkers with it, I have been into that particular thing for years. So…..being that as it may, and being that I do enjoy the festive celebration, I HATE HIM DOING IT WITH SUCH COMMITMENT, while disregarding what brought him his credit. Such a pitty.

The interview was nice and very “Candicy”. He comes across as the ‘Old Fogy’ who is a little pussy whipped and doing whatever it takes to please his little tight assed wench. Hey, at least he isn’t gay. And…he could do worse at his age. Right Priest? (just being positive).

Overall, they gave ‘Blackmore’s Night’ about 5 minutes. They showed them playing “Under a Violet Moon”. They interviewed both Candice and Ritchie. He states that he was attracted to that style music back in ’72, when he was playing Rock music like “Highway Star”. Plenty of promo…..not too shabby. Wish Purple could get that type of exposure on a major Cable Channel. Maybe they should dawn tights and pointy hats and play something for elevators…….

Go Ritchie Go…..still love ya man. Just wish you would do something out of Candice’s realm…you know, something with BALLS. Tell her to give them back!!!!!!

    Cheers

    Rascal says:

I think their maybe an even earlier version of ‘Robin Hood’……..frikkin awesome!!

    Still……….#everything I do, I do it for you#

Blackmore bottled out of rock music…..FACT

  31. 31
    Tracy Heyder says:

I don’t know about that, but if Obama get’s elected, he’ll be the New Version….”Robin’ fo da Hood”…..

    Cheers

    purplepriest1965 says:

Come bring on the black Monica Lewinsky

  35. 35
    Tracy Heyder says:

That would be the next ‘First Lady’ if Obama is elected……
Hmmmm. Think Bill Clinton likes Dark Tobacco?

    Nobama……

Funny how color has such significance. Black and Blue go together, like the Blacks are mostly Democrats whom use Blue as their reference point…..hmmmmm.

Ain’t too many Black Deep Purple fans…..just an observation. Not being racist….just observant. I love Deep Purple!!!!!!

    Cheers

    Rascal says:

Black & white Minstrels…..Ritchies next project?
